I agree, tuckerdog1..... who can't love this thread?!?!

After having our beloved Sasha pass away in our camper last October, our house just didn't seem right without a furkid or 3 running around. After having a total of 6 rescues over the past 13 years, it didn't seem right not having 4-legged kids around my feet.
Meet Tangie, Cherry and Chatter. Cherry and Chatter are rescues. There is balance in the house once again.

I'm anxious to see how they will do camping!

Show your Hounds!!

Hello Friends.
I just received the sad news that my German Shepherd Maverick has a serious form and cancer and was given a month or less to live. He's our first son, he's an older brother, a best friend.
He is our camping buddy. He lives for it. His ears perk up when I pull the camper into the driveway to load up. He knows good times are ahead.
I don't think he'll make the first trip this year, Camping just won't be the same without him.
Be sure to give your best friends a big hug and make the most of your time with him/her.

Man, I do feel your pain. In the below photo, Gina (on the right, age 14) was diagnosed with Lymphoma around Nov 15, 2015. Vet said maybe a month. She passed away Thanksgiving evening of 2015. Her sister, Ginny (on the left, age 13) was diagnosed with a tumor on her thyroid at the same time. Vet gave her a month. Ginny blessed us with her presence for 10 months past her diagnosis, surprising everyone.

They were rescues and brought love and joy to our lives.

Sasha, below, was a rescue and blessed us with over 10 years of love and joy. She passed away on our last camping trip last year. Like your Maverick, our Sasha loved to camp.

We now have the three Shelties in my earlier post. They don't replace the ones we have lost, but they are full of life and seem to be eager to build new memories with us.

He's a beautiful boy! So sad and so hard. Just enjoy your time left and know that you gave him a wonderful life!

Thanks for your help guys.
I never new how hard this could be. This is a hard pill to swallow.
We just took a long truck ride. I cooked him a bacon cheddar burger. I slept on the floor with him last night. He's given us almost 11yrs of happiness, this is the least I can do for him.
Thank you everyone.

We looked at some younger dogs (less than a year old) several years ago. Watched one run the fence line at the rescue - WAY too much energy for me! Plus, I don't have the patience to house train. I have the utmost admiration for those of you that raise puppies!

I know all too well how you feel. We lost our Shepherd after 8 too-short years. I've been through plenty of pets in my life, but none hit me as hard as this. My son took it especially hard as they practically grew up together, and my wife still misses him very much after almost a year and she's tougher than I am in some ways.
We took him to the vet one day because he had been acting tired, only to find out he was riddled with cancer. They tried emergency surgery that night but nothing could be done. Not having time to prepare only made it worse, he was just that awesome of a dog.
Remember the good times and that you gave him a good life, and don't forget that the people who don't understand how you feel were probably not lucky enough to have had great dogs like we have.
My favorite picture from about two years ago:

Groomings every 6 weeks and brushings help keep the fur down. Plus, DW does sweep about every day. But they are so worth it!

The only dog we had when I was a kid was Tipper a Sheltie mix. She was the smartest dog I've ever personally known. My Dad loved her so much, when she passed, he swore no dog could compare and he'd never have another. That's sad, but he meant it. This was in the early '60s. Dad passed 5 years ago. They had an oil painting done of Tipper, and Mom still has it hanging in the living room.

It kills me when they go. But I need to have dogs.

Here's our fur-babies; Harlee the schnauzer and Bruno the bulldog!
Both good pups, Bruno keeps me humble, everything to a bulldog is suggestion, lol...
