here are the amounts:
Mix 1qt hydrogen peroxide, 1 box baking soda and 2 tablespoons of blue Dawn dish soap. Sponge or spray on, leave on for 20 minutes, rinse and shampoo with usual brand.

Last I heard, tomato juice doesn't do much. Back in the early 90's about all it did was turn our white dog pink. A bunch of us was talking about dogs being sprayed by skunks last Tuesday night, and the latest conclusion was the above combination works best. Wayne

We've had occasion to test the hydrogen peroxide, soda & dish detergent recipe and can tell you it does work. I've never measured, just dump the ingredients in a bucket & start sponging. The sooner after the encounter, they better and it's better if the victim is not rinsed off first.

Soap them up and let it stay on for several minutes then rinse. You might have to give additional treatments but it really does cut the smell although it doesn't eliminate it 100%.

Skunked

We live in country with lots of critters. We have 2 labs a maltesse. The best de-skunker we have found is to make a paste with powder laundry detergent and vinegar --spread it all over the dog ( careful around the eyes ). Leave it on the dog for about 1/2 hr. the rince well. The smell will be 99% gone --wash with dog shampoo and you should all live happily till the next time.
We have done this a few times -1 of the labs likes those black and white cats.

she is doing great now - about 95% of the smell is gone.
few days of rolling in the grass and jumping in the pond and all will be back to normal. good thing she is less than 6 pounds and easy to handle!
