Stopped over to camp and rescued a dog.

Traveling back from Myrtle Beach to WV, we decided to stop over at Fries New River RV Park in VA. Wonderful 16 site RV park!
That said, we were walking back to our site after a refreshing dip in the New River with our 10 year old daughter when we saw a skinny Husky dog approaching us.
Our daughter immediately took to him and he hung around the camp all evening. The other campers and park owner said he had been straying there for over two years. They encouraged us to take him home with us.
So here I am this morning getting ready to take him to the local vet for shots and full makeover.
Looks like we have a new RV companion. "Bentley" will be part of "RV Life With Team Ferrell"

We had a husky a few years ago. He LOVED to run. We have a fenced in backyard and he would go over, under or through the fence so he could get out and run around the neighborhood. We had to rescue him from a neighbor or the pound more times that I can count. We also went through quite a few tie-outs as he was constantly breaking them.

I love huskies, but they require a lot of exercise and can be a lot of work.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement.

The rest of the story...

I personally didn't want a dog right now with so much going on but when I watched how my little girl bonded with him so quickly I was softening to the idea.
Then around dusk, he got up and trotted off back toward the little town. My little girl stood there and watched and tried not to cry and said, "Dad, I think we're losing Bentley". I could tell she was devastated so I agreed to take her on a walk around the little town with a flashlight looking for Bentley.

We walked and walked along little streets and asked people if they had seen him. One lady on her porch said she had seen him earlier and she was surprised to see him because she thought Animal Control had picked him up a couple of weeks ago. We had almost given up when my wife called on the cell phone to tell us he was back at our campsite. When I told me daughter, she burst into tears of joy. At that point I realized I was a new dog owner. LOL. What is a dad to do?
He slept in the Motorhome floor that night beside my daughter.
The next morning the camp owners showed up and when they saw him with us, his wife began crying and said she had prayed that God would allow that dog to go home with our family.
Bentley made the 3 hour ride home with us to Charleston, WV and is going to the vet today so he can get cleaned up and be able to sleep inside.
I'll get some pics posted soon.

My adult son brought home a Husky puppy after he returned from the Army.
We had him a short while before giving him to a lady that had another husky and a farm for them to run. He was much more hyper and strong.

Bentley is much easier going. Doesn't chase cats, birds and squirrels. He doesn't pull away. He just rolls along. We pray he will be easier to handle as his personality seems much easier going.
My niece and her fiancé raise husky puppies and they tell us each one is wired differently.

Update on Bentley... we just returned from the vet where he got all his shots plus a 90 day flea & tick supplement. He was treated for hook worms but should be to full health within 3 weeks. He is back home now and looking forward to good times with his 10 year old owner.

Congratulations to you and Bentley ! We have a rescue dog, and he loves camping, seeing new sights and exploring new smells ! He takes care of our aging plott hound, never lets her out of his sight. Good luck ! I think your daughter is one lucky little girl to have Bentley! Buddy says Hey !

Years ago we had a Shepard husky mix choose us, he came to our house, we fed him and he never left. There were 3 kids there. He was the best, most loyal, and sweetest dog we ever had. Also a very good guard dog. My dad traveled a lot for work and we never felt unsafe while he was gone.
Later, we found out he had been tied up all day and left alone for hours on end. He would let small kid ride on his back. Thanks for reminding us about our dog Tip.

God Bless you and your family! Please keep him and be his forever family! We take our 70 lb Aussie Cattle Dog/Border Collie mix with us on all RV trips including twice the past two years coast to coast and back to CA! She's (Sprinkles) great! Worth all of the extra considerations you will find necessary to make just like with a kid! She adopted us at 12 weeks old and is now 4 1/2! Our other rescue Natasha (beaten by her previous owners) raised Sprinkles for 2 years! Natasha came down with a horrible form of canine cancer and we lost her 3 years ago this coming August! We took her RVing too! Life is at its best when you save a life! God Bless you! Dan, Gerda, & Sprinkles
