What do you do with your dogs while on the road?

Like all healthy relationships, sometimes you need your time away...when we go camping, dogs stay behind, we'll cared for...vacation for both of us!

my friend with a 5th wheel has a dog that gets car sick. so the dog rides in a crate in the 5th wheel. they do have 2-way communication so they can stay inside the camper while on the road if they want to. they have 12v fans that run to keep the occupants cooled.



in my rig, my 2 GSD's travel in the motorhome with us. they have folding soft crates. we convert the dinette into a bed and put the soft crates on top of that. it stays put and the pups are in a/c and protected. plus the kids can visit and play with the pups any time they want.

if we take an excursion away from the camp and the pups can't come, that's where they stay and wait for us till we come back (inside their crates on top of the dinette converted sleeper inside the rv).

We have had three TVs over the years. It has almost always been just the two of us and our dogs. Started with a Ford E-150 Conversion Van, towing two different Ultra-Lite TTs. We removed the two captains chairs from the center row and our two labs had all kinds of room. Next TV was a Chevy Suburban 2500. Usually had middle and rear seats folded down for the dogs, but on one long trip, also had sister-in-law, her son, her dog, and our two labs. The three dogs stayed in the rear area of the Suburban. Graduated to a 5er and a Chevy 2500HD CC Diesel. The dogs do fine with the rear seat folded down, but now no room for the sister-in-law and nephew. Too bad!

The van was the most comfortable for everyone, but it had limited towing capacity. The Suburban was a good compromise. Good towing capacity, but not quite as comfortable. With the 5er, we had to have a truck. It tows better than anything else, but not as much room for dogs , passengers, and other cargo.

Addi rides in her crate inside the truck and toby rides in the pick up bed under the 5er.

He either rides here, in the back seat, or depending how far we are going he will ride in the bed of the truck. He don't care where he rides, as long as he can ride.

We fold half of the back seat up and put a bean bag for Alley to relax on!

Anchor takes up most of the back seat. I just fold the seat up and put his bed in there. But he is 160 lbs too. No crate his size.
