I bought my trailer from McKenzie. They were excellent to deal with and I would recommend them.

A buddy and I bought two at the same time (Oct. RV Show in Toronto) and we beat them in submission for great pricing

They were quite accomodating, the trailer was delivered in January and I drove to McKenzie's to inspect it. They drove me to their stoprage lot up the road form the dealer to inspect it. They stored it until I picked it up and paid for it in April.

The service staff that walked us through orientation were fantastic.

I have not had any warranty issues to date (that's a good thing) so I can't comment on warranty work.

Based on my experience to date I would deal with them again, in a heartbeat.

This thread is good timing for me.

I have an issue with delaminated bed doors on my '10 Roo 23 SS that I'm dealing with Gregg Rollins at Forest River on. He seemes to be willing to send replacement parts if I pay for the labour to install them.

Considering I'm the 2nd owner, bought it used privately and I have no factory warranty, I really appreciate Forest River's gesture. On the other hand, this delamination issue is apparently not uncommon and the fact that its happening on a 2-3 year old trailer doesn't speak well for the design and assembly processes. Mind you, most if not all manufacturers have the same quality issues and they've gone to the new permanently attached canvas design now.

Back to the point of this thread... Since they're the closest Roo dealer to me, I'm probably going to have McKenzie do the installation for me. I've called them on 2 occasions since getting my Roo. The first time I called them for a price on some parts. I had to leave a voicemail message and they never returned my call. I called them yesterday for a quote on this work but the service person is away until after labour day.

I'll report back on my experience with McKenzie, good or bad, if I have them do the work.

Just go up the road to Layzee acres. Bought a hybrid there a couple of years ago. very good dealer, easy to deal with. can't say anything about service, because I sold the camper when I returned home to NS.

We checked out Layzee Acres and we were impressed with the laid back sales, no pressure whatsoever and no rush, answer all questions etc. However, they do not sell the Columbus brand.

They sell a darn nice Crossroads Cruiser though.

RE- ITAT

Yes, I know the Parts department can be a little slow. When I bought my trailer and was negotiating prices for hitches, brake controller etc. it was winter time and things were slow at the dealer so I had a quick response.

I spoke with Service last week.....it does seems odd the entire Service department shuts down while one person is on vacation!

Helpful Service

I got an email from Debbie in the service dept. at McKenzie RV Trailers this morning. She talked to Greg Rollins at FR and confirmed that he is sending up bed cores, seal kits and decals for both bed doors directly to them. Debbie has been quite helpful now that she's back. Too bad nobody wanted to help while she was away though.

The parts won't arrive for 6-8 weeks from FR. FR won't warranty any of the parts and McKenzie will only warranty their work for 30 days which won't be of much use when they do the repairs in October or November. Still, I do appreciate FR's gesture.

I'll post how McKenzie did with the repairs after they're completed.

I would have a problem with your dealer only warranting their install work for 30 days on a repair your are paying them good money for. If you bought that trailer from them as well, I'd seriously look for a better dealer for my future business.

wincrasher, we bought the Roo privately, second hand. Other than the delam issue and some water getting past the clsoed bed door seals, its been a great trailer. Hopefully these repairs will take care of both those issues.

We actually looked at new trailers from McKenzie at the Toronto RV show this past winter but decided against the higher cost of brand new understanding there is a risk not having a factory warranty. I guess its typical of most RV dealers that they give preference to customers who bought new at their dealership. Its short-sighted IMO because we all need service at some point and that's where the big profits can be had.

Even with the cost of labour for these repairs we're still paying a lot less than we would have for a new one of the same model so in the long run we're ahead.

If this works out well, we'll give them more business. If not, I'll be telling this forum and all my camping friends about my experience.

Just wanted to give an update on our experience with McKenzie RV this past Fall. I posted this earlier an another thread.

We got ours back from McKenzie RV in Gormley, ON where the new doors and seal kits were installed. They seem to have done a nice job putting it back together but they didn't do anything about the screws in the door frame.

FR sent new "bed cores" so the dealer had to re-use the frame from around the old cores and the lock mechanisms. The new white seals around the door edges are much thicker than the originals. They also gave me a different door hinge on the front bed door so there isn't such a large gap at the bottom corners when its in the stored position.

Since the work was done in late fall here in Ontario, Canada it's too cold to think about camping (for us anyway!) so its back in outdoor storage. We'll get a better look in the Spring at how good their workmanship was. Finger crossed!

The technician's advice to avoid the delam bubbling was to make sure there is a good bead of caulk around the frame where it overlaps the core on the outside and inside.

BTW, the technician said the new style permanently attached bed ends will not fit in the old style (bungie) door openings. They had tried on another customer's trailer and had to re-order new old-style doors. They also said the new design, or at least as it came out originally, had a serious problem and they are replacing a lot of them. We saw more than a dozen of the new style doors lying outside their shop that had been replaced.

Another update on my experience with McKenzie Trailers...

When we got the Roo back from outdoor storage the front bunk was nice and dry but the rear bunk had some water in it that that had gotten past the misaligned screws that they didn't address. I've since tried to remedy that myself but I have to say its a poor design that its not a fool proof installation process at the factory and the metal frame doesn't allow for countersinking the screws so they're flush. Does anyone with the new permanently attached canvas have this issue?

The work McKenzie did do looks not too bad but we did have a few issues:

One of the snaps on the outside of both doors is not exactly where the the factory snaps were so on both doors the canvas is tight on one corner and buckled a couple of snaps from that corner.

When they switched the frames from the old doors to the new bed cores, they chipped the paint off one end of a frame piece on the front door but didn't repair it so I have bare aluminum exposed.

The wooden trim along the inside of the rear door (that covers the edge of the rubber flap over the hinge) is buckled slightly in one spot.

They didn't put any Velcro on the inside of the door on either door, so the corresponding Velcro on the tenting inner flap can't be secured to the bed door. That's an easy fix but annoying that it wasn't done.

I have emailed McKenzie about these issues but after several days they have not responded. If you are going to use McKenzie Trailers, I would suggest that they don't communicate we'll through emails, so you will need to call them directly.

McKenzie called back and have agreed to take the trailer back to do some repairs. I'm taking it in on July 8th.

I have used Campkins to install my slideout topper and I've bought lots of accessories there. They are always friendly and eager to please the customer. Campkins is closer to me than McKenzie, but I had to use McKenzie for this repair because the factory insisted they would only send the replacement bed cores to one of their dealers and McKenzie was the closest Roo dealer. Holiday World in Orono is closer to me but I've found their service dept. to be not very friendly and very expensive.

Hi. We bought our Rockwood from McKenzie. It has to go back for some warranty work. I’ll update on that later. For purchasing they were good. We bought at the RV show and they were the closest Rockwood dealer.

cant speak to Mackenzie , but Campkins is literally 10 mins up the road , i was looking for a Crusdader Lite 30bh and they had a 17' which i was very interested in , the price was very high, and they would not come anywhere near all other dealers I tried on my trade in , they were 4500 less then 4 other dealers. I ended up purchasing a 2018 model from Open Roads in Ottawa (yes I drove out there, because I got a 2018 for way less then there 2017 price and the trade in value was amazing , so it was worth the price of a tank of gas ) I have also used lazy acres , i purchased my previous TT from them and they too offered amazing prices. Campkins service department was not fun to deal with so i dont use them at all even though they are so close
