Recommended RV dealers in Montana?
We want to buy an A-class MH, possibly Georgetown XL 369 DS. Since we come from overseas, it doesn't matter so much where we fly into. Since there are no sales taxes there, we were thinking of buying in Montana. Can anyone recommend an RV dealer with reasonable prices and good service?

There's no sales tax in Oregon either and you'll find way more dealers there.

No, but you can find a lot of RV dealer reviews on various RV forums, including this one.

Although I have not personally purchased a rig from them, Bretz in Missoula is huge, and they appear to have a good reputation. I have visited them to look at a few rigs, and they always seem friendly with no hard sell tactics.

Thanks owgpz! We visited them a few years ago and also found them very pleasant and not pushy. Would definitely be an option if we buy in Montana.

Neutral Recommended RV dealers in Montana
I live in Montana and Gardners RV Center in Kalispell did good repair work for my Forest River "Forester". They are a Forest River dealer. But I bought my MH Forester from RnR RV Center in Liberty Lake, WA. As a Montana resident I did not have to pay WA sales tax. RnR RV Center is an excellent dealer that also has done some work on my motor home. Very satisfied with both dealers. Gardners handled on the Sunseeker Class C. But I wanted a Forester.

buy rv
hi marula,
I am no expert, but I believe if you establish a home address in Montana, then you can buy anywhere and pay no sales taxes .... just tell them you are getting the license in your home state, and drive there on a temp license they give you, then license it.
Maybe that works for Oregon also.
If you do that, you can buy in Texas but only pay MT taxes, if any, instead of Texas taxes.
One price check I like is mhsrv.com. Also, FB has a group worth joining before you negotiate for an RV ...... RV Pricing and Values.
Further, opinions differ here, but a used RV bought right has shed the drive off depreciation.
Good luck.

Retrieve is correct. If you list your residence here (Montana), have some sort of address, you will not have to pay sales tax in many states. Some-yes no matter where you live so you'd have to do some checking. We drove the distance to MHSRV in Texas and did not have to pay their tax, only the normal licensing fees in Montana.

Glad to know there is someone in Montana who works on Foresters. We're almost-newbies who live in Montana. Getting our Forester in Grand Rapids, Michigan not taxed.
Thanks for your post.

Some States will assess their own sales tax - even if you bought it elsewhere - if that is where you first register and have it first titled. It happened to me in NJ.
Check that carefully.

Hi Rider, thanks for the welcome. We're looking forward to picking up ours; excited and intimidated at the same time.
We want to change out our water filter for a better system. Is it easy to get to the water filter?

I've looked at my water filters, but not touched them. Maybe I should take your lead and upgrade them. Since I haven't touched them I don't know how easy it would be to replace. Yet, by the looks of them it should not be too difficult. Let me know how it goes when you switch out yours.

So in order to avoid this, we would have to register it in the state where we buy it?

We also like the Oregon idea as there seem to be quite a lot of dealers who cater for all season needs, too.

It depends on the state. Some States - like NJ - will assess the sales tax because you are a resident of their state who brought a new vehicle into the state, and this will be done when you register it or even later when they learn it was bought out of state. I recommend that you consult an accountant in your state of residence. You will sleep better.
