2008 Palomino roof issues

I have a 28 ft puma with a bad roof I just found. Has about 10 bad spots, and it stays under a metal cover when not in use. Not sure the cause wondering if anybody has seen this and why?

Likely something fell on it or it scrapped a low-hanging branch somewhere along the way.

Could be but its on both sides.

Are you the original owner or did you buy used? When was the roof last inspected?

Something had to have rubbed against it. I can't image any other way for damage like that to occur.

I have a 2005 Chaparral 5th Wheel that I purchased used from a dealer. I never had an occasion to check the roof until I wanted to check the caulking and found a large soft spot behind the AC. I purchased insurance through Good Sam and discovered that this soft spot is not a covered expense. I was lucky that no damage occurred inside (drought in Calif). I went online and checked out diy videos. I removed the rails on each side (15'), removed the AC (Leaking gasket), and also removed a rear roof vent. I peeled the roof rubber back to just above the AC inlet and replaced 2 4' X 8' panels that were damaged by leak. I had my son help me to re glue the roof and pull the rubber back down. I replaced the gasket under the AC. This took me approx 3 weeks to complete the repair. I can only imagine what the Dealer would have charged. I am guessing around 6 thousand dollars because the dealer would have replaced the entire EDPM rubber membrane. I am an old, Gray Fat guy with lots of time. Also I was very pissed off that insurance didn't cover the repair. My cost was $400. If I buy another used RV, I will check out the roof before purchase. Good luck with your repair!

Most likely damage from rubbing / scrapping something low hanging. Looks just like my roof last month. After I cut that tree down I used this product from Amazon...

You have rubbed against a tree branch somewhere down the line. Being in the RV repair business iI see it a lot. It looks like your roof has some age on it. If you only want to patch it The DiSeal Tape is excellent. But BE SURE and get the cleaner to clean the EPDM first. Age powders the rubber and the tape will come off in a time. Also best to Dicor the edges of the tape to keep it down and sealed. I also see the mildew is eating into your EMDM also. Your unit must be about 8 to 10 years old.

Thanks for replies, it's going to a repair shop next week and hopefully insurance takes care of it. It has about 10 spots from quarter size to the big one you see up and down both sides. I bought this unit second hand two years ago, and day I took delivery, I climbed on top and all looked great. Yes this unit is a 08.
