2012 Sabre 32RCTS Matress Replacement
I'm wanting to replace the mattress in our 2012 Sabre 32RCTS and am having trouble with the dimensions of a new mattress. The brochure says it has a Deluxe Pillow Top 60" X 80" Queen. When I measure from the headboard (the wooden part) to the inside of the footboard it is 78 3/8". The mattress I'm looking at is a 60" X 79.5" Serta Euro Top. I realize this is only a 1 1/8" difference but the mattress fits between a rigid headboard and footboard. I'm thinking that in order to make the new one fit I would have to cut off the top of the footboard to allow the mattress to overhang on the plywood base. The DW does not like to have to lift the mattress anyway to make up the bed which is how it is designed. Has anyone run into this problem on there Sabre 32RCTS? Any other suggestions would be helpful.

Question?
I have a 2013 32RCTS but don't recall a hard foot board. (Than again I don't make the bed) That said the DW says there is a lip/edge that it needs to fit into and with the covers it is a tight fit. If you like I will look at mine tomorrow, but that wont change things for you. How high is the foot board you are talking about? I can at least let you know if they made changes this year that you might be able to do as well. If the DW is around tomorrow (she substitute teaches) we can lift the mattress and shoot a PIC. Just let me know if you want me to do that.

Thanks for the reply Davidceder. What I'm calling the footboard is the end piece at the foot of the bed that sticks up 4 5/8" above the plywood base. Because of this a new mattress that is 80" long (like the brochure states and that are on sale as "regular queens") will not fit between it and the headboard because it is measuring 78 3/8".
You do not need to take pictures but I would appreciate it if you would measure yours from the inside of the headboard (not the wall) to the inside of the piece sticking up at the foot of the bed.
Thanks Much

Just a thought but could you remove the footboard and re-position it using a 1 1/8" spacer.

Not a bad idea but I wonder how the footboard is attached and what if any space around the bed may be lost.
I know 1 1/8 is not much but in an RV it may be too much to loose.

I've thought of that but by extending the footboard any further will cause it to contact the dresser when retracting the slide in. Right now there is only about 1/2" between the handles of the drawers in the footboard and the dresser with the slide in. That's why I'm contemplating cutting off the top 4 5/8" of the footboard to allow a new mattress to slightly hang over the end.

Is this a full width or post style?

The plywood platform that the mattress lays on is 14 3/8" high from the floor. The footboard at the end of the plywood platform is 19" above the floor and runs 60" across the width. That requires the mattress to lay in between the headboard and footboard. My problem is that it measures only 78 3/8" between the headboard and footboard and new mattresses are listed as 60" X 80". Some are listed as 60" X 79" or 60" X 79.5".

Cyoul8r.;
This might confuse things even more. I only have 77&3/4 inches from inside of the headboard to the inside of the foot board. That is 5/8's less than you. My foot board is 4 inches tall (maybe a 1/16 less). It almost looks as though you can tuck the top (head) part of the mattress under the headboard. I didn't measure how much the mattress sits above the lower part of the head board. When I ordered the rig I optioned to the "Serta Mattress Upgrade" which is also stated as 60" X 80".
On the mattress you are thinking of getting did you physically measure it (sounds like you did) or are you going off a spec?
Sorry I don't know much more but I can always measure my rig for you. Let me know how things turn out.
David

Thanks for taking the time to measure for me. I've been basing the mattress measurements off the mattress advertisings. I then measured my bed platform to see if any would fit. Some mattresses are also rated at 8" - 13" in height which could pose another problem with hitting my head when I sit up to get out of bed. The mattress I have now is the standard original that is about 6" high and it does tuck under the headboard somewhat to fit. If I go with a taller height then I'm locked in to the distance between the two boards. The taller ones seem to be better quality. I see that CW has a Eurotop that is 60" X 79" X 8". That might fit if I squeeze it a little. Just don't know if it's any good. Also, some mattresses have an internal rigid framework which would not provide any give to make them fit. I was trying to see if other Sabre owners ran into this problem when replacing theirs or what brand/model they were successful with.
