AC / Furnace come on @ same time

2017 Solaire 267 BHSK - took it home from dealer and was trying out the heat. When furnace comes on the air conditioning unit blows at the same time. Digital thermostat. Is it possible to change this setting so only the furnace comes on without fresh outside air (I'm in a fairly cold climate)

Go to Fan setting on Thermostat and change to Auto. In Hi and Lo speeds, it runs the AC fan to help circulate warm air near ceiling.

Make sure your fan setting is on auto.If you have it on anything else the fan runs all the time.

Looks like we all answered at the same time.

I have a soldier also. Make sure the fan setting on the thermostat is set to "auto" and this should fix your problem.

Congrats on your new rig.

As many have said, setting the digital thermostat to AUTO will keep the A/C fan from running. It will run if the setting is on LO or HI

Unfortunately, your dealer failed to give you some very basic RV 101 advice about how some of the systems work. Also, many folks come here thinking this is a problem. (when the A/C runs with the furnace) It is not, it is an option. Shame on the dealer for not fulfilling his obligations.

Warm air rises so the manufacturer (Dometic) gives you the option of running the A/C fan to help distribute that warm air throughout the camper. This is something a competent RV dealer should know and explain to you during the customer orientation.

Also, your A/C unit isn't pulling in any 'fresh' outside air. The air in the camper is recirculated throughout. This applies to both the A/C and the furnace. They are closed systems to the outside. The furnace for the purpose of not depleting oxygen (for combustion) inside the camper and the A/C for the purpose of using already cooled air to help continue to cool.

That's why it is always a good idea to utilize any vent fans/windows to initially draw the heat out of your camper when first firing up the A/C. If you can drop the inside temperature several degrees by running the vent fan(s) along with opening a window for a few minutes, you'll allow the A/C unit to get a jump on cooling your rig.

Enjoy!

I have a 2014 Wildwood and found the same thing when we first traveled in cold weather. I found it was only the AC fan, not the AC itself. Our digital thermostat has a setting that allows you to use the AC fan to help circulate the warm air. It didn't work well..Check your thermostat instructions and it should explain how to disable the AC fan.

The previous answers about the thermostat settings are correct but; This past week (Wednesday) there was a lighting strike near my RV, This caused the AC and the heater to come on. The thermostat was indicating an E4 error. I could not change any settings or even set it to off. The only way to stop the AC was to unplug from shore power. The only way to stop the heater was to turn off the propane. I disconnected the battery to stop the thermostat. When I reconnected the battery, the error code was gone. I set the thermostat to Off and then plugged in shore power. The AC came on immediately. I opened up the propane tank and the heater came on again about 15 seconds later. Remember I had left the thermostat in the Off position. It still remained in the off position. I used the thermostat and moved to AC and set the temperature that should have shut down the AC. I had to unplug shore power and turn off the propane again. The E4 error indicates an open circuit. The RV in in the shop awaiting repair.

to primetime: I have to ask. did you have a electrical surge suppressor installed on the shore power? or did the lightning actually hit the trailer?

No surge suppressor. Lighting strike was close. The TV in the RV was knocked out. The DriecTV box and sound bar power connector in my cabin.

Also if your furnace temp is to close to your AC temp setting both can be on at the same time.
