Adding Backsplash to my Mini

Right away I knew that I needed to do something as far as adding a backsplash. The wallboard wouldn't hold up to my wife's cooking practices So I found peel-and-stick mosaic tiles at Lowes and installed this myself. It took about 90 minutes. It dramatically changes the look for the better, and is functional.

Backsplash

How did you make the curved cuts around the window?

Looks great Wish I had seen this a few days ago. Hired this idiot kid to put tile in the bathroom vanity. Took him 6 hours to put up 20 ceramic 4" tiles. Then couldn't figure out how to finish the job.

Whew/

Your's looks really spectacular.

Hmmm, I may have to do that. It is a great idea. I am afraid that grease and stuff will be absorbed into the wall board. Thanks for the great idea.

I did my kitchen wall over a year ago with that same peel and stick gel stuff and it looks great and is still holding tight.

For those of you that have done this. Did you use regular grout or something else?

Keith, re-read the OP. They used a peel-and-stick product

Shop DIY Peel and Stick Backsplashes at Lowes.com!

No grout needed.

Thanks for the link.

I saw the original post. I've used peel and stick tiles in the past and they required grout. That's why I asked.

I've seen peel and stick backsplash tiles and floor tiles. Never heard of having to use grout, too. Interesting.

The stuff I used was a stick on stuff with no grout necessary. The real stuff is heavy and messy and could crack under the stress of driving. Try this website from Home Depot.

Smart Tiles 10.20 in. x 9.10 in. Peel and Stick Mosaic 3D Gel Decorative Wall Tile Backsplash Muretto Alaska in White and Grey-SM1057-1 - The Home Depot

You may have to copy and paste it. There are lots more colors and styles available from Home Depot and Lowes.

Thanks! The tiles are easily cut with a sharp utility knife or shears. Because the tiles are vinyl you can place the tiles around the window and kind of "press" them on the window border. That leaves somewhat of an imprint and then you can take a sharpie and draw the line to cut. It's not perfect, however with a little easy trimming you can make it fit like a glove.

I also put up these "faux" tiles in the bath room of my 2013 Columbus last year. My only concern was the very step price of $40 for a pack of 6 tiles. I will say that it really makes it look elegant and they have held up well in a damp environment. I thought about re-doing the backsplash behind the sink from countertop to the underside of the cabinets but it would have required a minimum of 4 packs of tiles and I would also have to do the area behind the stove, an additional 3 packs so it would match, so I decided to leave that area the way it came from the factory.

Nice upgrade!
We put the same thing up 2 subzero winters ago and it still looks marvelous. We used Smartiles and a wide variety is available on line.
The company is very supportive. We originally had mirrors as a backsplash and after one breakfast I knew they would be history. We popped the mirrors off and put up the tiles after watching the video. We used the leftovers behind the bathroom faucet as a mini backsplash. We get lots of compliments and it sure beats the mirrors for cleanup.

I think I just found another project to add to the list of mods I want to do.

Those of you that have done this to your bathrooms... do you find that it helps keep the moisture under control (like shower spray)? Our bathroom in our hybrid TT is VERY small and taking showers in it takes some getting used to from showing at home. The thin vinyl curtain gets suck to EVERYTHING and doesn't seem to keep water in as much as I would like. I have to wipe down the vanity every time. I don't mind the wiping down part, but I am concerned about what the effect that kind of moisture will have on the materials over time.
