Just purchased new Columbus 320rs. Has anyone had any issues with the Akuret tires? Thanks

I also never heard of this brand but many tires made in china of different brands are made by the the same maker. There are so many different brands that it is confusing. My tires are made under the triangle brands.

I have a 2012 Sabre 31 RETS-6 manufactured November 2011 that has Akuret HF 188 tires. They are Chinese imports and I don't feel comfortable
with them but will try to get at least the first season out of them before replacing.
At least the date code on them show that they were made the last week of August 2011 so they were not old inventory.
Many new trailers have tires that are already over a year old when they are put on a new trailer. Talked to a guy this weekend with a Cedar Creek Silverback that said he found out his new purchase had year old tires (don't know the brand) when he bought the new trailer. He already had one blow out. Chinese junk, I just don't understand why American companies are allowed to import and sell such junk to the RV industry.

You have to realize that the Chinese junk is made by American companies that decided that it would be more profitable to manufacture to make product in a country with less rules about nearly everything, they can pollute the air the rivers the workers and there is no accountability,I know we are not supposed to broach these subjects on here but it is hard to discuss this subject without doing so, so sorry.

My 2011 Blue Ridge came with Good Year tires from the factory. Cool, right? When I was washing it the other day, I noticed that stamped on the sidewall is the now common phrase "Made in China". Even the name brands aren't safe anymore.

have a loaner at this moment while I am waiting for my minilite from the factory. It is a 2009 R Pod and I was looking at the tires. They are Good Year marathon and the tire says it is made in U.S.A. Some marathon are also made in China if I understand!

Thanks for the replies. Know Columbus and Sabre are using this tire. Trying to decide if I should use them for awhile, or go ahead and put Maxxis on it now. Have used Maxxis before with good results.

I have them on my 32 RCTS. No problems yet. I can't explain it but I don't like the look of the tread. Are you concerned about catastrophic tire failure, short wear life span, quality of ride, etc?? a

No problems with 4500 miles on tires. Maxxis M8008, ST235/80R16, load
range E, 3420# at 80psi. Bought locally $800.00 out the door, 4 tires mounted
and balanced.

1% of Columbus owners have complained of Akuret tire failures. That would be 2 in 200 Columbus RVs for those keeping score. A couple of threads on Akuret tires here on FRF.

For those 1% club members, they have no idea why tire failed. Although overweight and underinflated was not an issue before failure. Leads me to believe failure was from road hazard, a fluke bad tire from Akuret, or misaligned wheel hub mounted to axle.

Dang near everything you buy at Walmart is made in China. Yes it's cheap stuff but when you think back, how much of it failed and died early? Made in China = super inexpensive labor force and manufacturing costs. Not necessarily poor product.

Akuret Tire

We had a Akuret ST235/80R16E fail with less than 4,000 miles on it. We are not overloaded. We have a 40 foot Columbus 365 RL 5th wheel that has a 3600 pound additional capacity and I am sure we are at less than 1/2 of that. I am fanatical about tire pressure checking before we leave on each trip. The other three tires were at perfect tire pressure. The dealer that I purchased a replacement from advised me that they had only one left and that the tire was discontinued. Other comments below say only one in 200 failure rate. What is the percentage that never get reported but just replaced?
My feeing is Akuret had a problem and discontinued the tire.

The Akuret Gamble

I have to agree with the doubt expressed related to the failure rate and reporting. I had two blow outs, over a span of three trips. Trust me, tire pressure, speed and load were not an issue. My rig (Columbus 320) has been in the shop for 10 weeks now, for $3,000 in damage from the last blow out. When I pick it up, it is going straight to the tire store for two new Maxxis, replacing the two remaining Akuret's. In addition, I purchased a TST tire monitor system to let me know of any rise in tire temp. or pressure increase/decrease.

If you have ever experienced one tire blowing out, not fun...if two on the same side were to ever go, could be catastrophic.

In my opinion, gambling on having "good Akuret's" is not worth the risk.

keeping an eye on mine but good so far. had a 800 mile RT in June and will be going a couple thousand in a couple weeks, Have a TPMS and they are WAY underloaded so I am optimistic. 16 in LR E tires so they are pretty stout. for a 10K rig.

fingers crossed woo hoo

Went to the Fall RV show here in St. Louis last weekend as our camping trip was cut short due to a hub giving out....I noticed Coachmen (FR brand) had a new tire I have never heard of on the 2014 units....I dont exactly remember the name but I do know they were still made in China. I wonder if its the same across the board for FR?
