The one we are looking at is 14,800 and we will tow it with a 3/4 ton as well. It is rated at 16k and the Chevy isn't far off the mark.

I tow a 295RL and you will be disappointed with both the performance and fuel mileage of a 3/4 ton gasser. You will almost surely be over the GVWR on the rear axle too, but might barely squeeze by. I know as I towed mine with a 2010 F350 with a diesel. Your GVWR is 10,000. Your towing capacity means nothing. What means something is the cargo capacity. The pin weight of your fiver will be at least 2000 pounds, probably more. Do yourself and your wallet a favor; buy a 350/3500 diesel. You'll never regret it once you pull you Columbus. I know. I just upgraded to a DRW 3500 RAM as I would've been overweight on the rear axle with the addition of an aux fuel tank, W/D and a gen.

I tow a Columbus 320RS with an 11' Ram 2500 Cummins & love it. However if I were buying again I would buy a 3500/350 SRW for the extra bed carrying capacity. It's not the towing capacity but the carrying capacity you need to be concerned with. Good luck.

Chevy 2500 HD

We pull our 2015 Columbus 320 RS about 11,000 plus with our 2012 gas Chevy 2500 HD 4X4 no issues or strain. The tow rating on ours is well over 14,000. No complaints driving up to Tahoe on highway 50 passing the slower vehicles.

You can pull it but you probably were over your payload when you add pin weight, passengers, and camping stuff. Pull it, yes. Safe?????

My 2016 2500HD gasser has a payload of 2906 lbs.

The main problem is that you may be over cargo capacity. The pin weight of my 295 is 2300 lbs, I was over in my 2005 GmC 6.0l gas, then I went to buy a new truck but I was switching to Deisel so I started with a 2500 and it's cargo capacity was 2285, so I went with a 1ton which is 3845. Not saying that it won't pull it because it will, just know your cargo capacity a first

Payload on a diesel is usually 600-800 lbs less than the payload for the same truck as a gasser. (One reason someone might WANT a gasser.)

But for these monster 5vers, I agree, get a diesel, and one with enough payload.

Columbus list the 29rl at 13,667 GVWR. You can assume at least 20% pin weight. This will bring you to over 2,700 pin weight. Add to that the hitch weight, passengers and other stuff. You will be over your payload. As I said you can pull it but safely????
