Axle Alignment

Any know of a reputable shop in the Phoenix, Arizona area where I might have my axle alignment checked?

Any big truck (18 wheeler) shop can do it. It's not hard and they have the tools big enough to lift any camper. I would look at these types of places.

There are a few measurements you can do yourself to see if you have a problem. Do some diagonal measurements at the axles and from the front of the frame to the axle. I think 3/8" is considered max allowance on the diagonal from frame to axle point.

Hey Turbs.

I think I might. Take a look at the attached tread depth reading. You can see that the outside tread of both tires on the rear axle are wearing fast on the outside tread. I replaced the passenger rear at 7640 miles with 5/32 (was about to drive 2000 miles). The driver rear is down to 4/32 with 10340 miles on the tire. The other tread readings on these tires and the front axle look good to me. Maybe camber on the rear axle? I need to decide what to do with that Driver Rear tire. The passenger rear tire has lost 3/32 in 2707 miles.

Any ideas?

Check the arch of your springs. They should all look equal and not flat.

To check axle to axle u can make a "ruler" out of 1 by 4. Measure from grease fitting from front to rear axle as the two other pieces of 1" by 4" fit up to the hubs. Mark where the are on the one side and check or compare to the other side to see if there is a noticeable difference. Check wheel bearings and lug nuts to tighten properly.

I had a temp difference between the front two tires and the rear two tires. About 10 degrees. After checking the alignment I found the two front measured out right on. However the back tires were not close on measurement. Be sure to hook up your TV and move the trailer back and forth several times in a straight line to make sure all is in a relaxed position on the springs and shackles before doing any measuring. That made a big difference for mine. I found that the distance between the front axel and the back axel was not the same on both sides. I hung a string and Plumbob off the front pin on my 5er. Made a mark on the ground and measured back to each axel from that point. I'd suggest a truck shop if it needs alignment. Good luck.
