Gonna have to agree with you there. I didn't know about the freaking golf cart when I posted earlier.

OK everyone, ya are working yourself into a frenzy. There is absolutely no rant here, the OP simply stated what has happened to him so far. There has been many suppositions made also, that may or not be true. No need to guess or suppose, until the OP responds (but he may not want to now with all these aspersions being cast).

Let's take it back down a notch or two. If you can help the OP, then please do by all means. If not, then it's time to let it go and seek out a thread that you can help on. There's way too many other members needing help and advice.

Please post responsibly.

Is that thing called a Iowa Tote? I saw one behind a Travel Trailer behind a SUV on the weekend. Pretty scary wobbling down the road!

Looks flimsy to me especially when making turns and the pressure exerted on the tires being twisted in opposite direction and the extra distance the Equa-Flex® adds to the distance from the frame to the spring hangers

On another forum I frequent there have been pictures of that equalizer ripping through the holes. Not nearly as stout as the E-Z-Flex

Not disputing the strength of the Equa-Flex, but it still transmits the load to the frame which IMO not properly reinforced.

Thats no big deal. My BIL's Cardinal did that except it tore the bottom flange completely off.He had a welding shop jack the piece back in place and weld up the tear.He babyed it home 500miles set it up on stands and pulled the axles and springs completely out. I went down on a w/e (he is not a welder/fab guy) and we did some more H&B (heat and beat) to get it all back where its supposed to be. There was only a slight ripple in the web ares but I plated and stitched the web 24" with 3/4" plug welds every 6" in a zig-zag pattern. We cut some 1/4" plate and fully boxed the upper and lower flanges on both sides for about 6'.Repeated on other side even though it had not failed.Put 3 - 4" channel crossmembers between the inside box plates, flush with the bottom flanges where the spring hangers are located.I know its probably hard for most people to visulise but its really pretty basic. That was 4 yrs ago and probably 40000 moles. They full time in winter but dont stay in one spot as they build "homes for humanity" thru thier church. All together there was two guys for about 3 days. Understand that any plateing and boxing must be stitch welded, not continuos and web plates must be tapered to a point at the ends, not left 90 deg to the frame.

I agree and not disputing the damage done. Just making a comment on the Equa-Flex so that others are aware and should keep a close eye on them. Same as any other component on an RV.

sounds like it might be time for a phone call to a lawyer about both the insurance company and forest river?

There is no warranty so forest river is out of it.

There are some 2013 era posts over at RV.net expressing bad experiences with swivel-wheel add-on trailers - specifically that the frame needs reinforced & your warranty is out-the-door... That said, a good commercial trailer shop should be able to straighten & reinforce the frame without breaking the bank. IMO, for the price of involving a lawyer the OP could be back on the road w/reinforce frame ready-to-go...

Rhino has the answer. Stop and fix the frame and then reinforce for the tote and go on your way!

Even Lippert has come out with a kit to reinforce the Equa-Flex which reinforces that it is an additional load on the frame.

IMO, this is not a warranty issue but a road hazard and should have been covered under the camper's collision/comprehensive (not the tow vehicle's).

Now, if the camper was not insured for those; I see your problem.

Additionally, without an accident report that gave the location of the pothole that caused the damage you will have a long row to hoe proving your case to the insurance company or try to recover from the municipality that owned the road with the pothole.

If you manufacture something that later turns out not to be built to do what it is supposed to do you are a possible target for being liable, warranty does not come into it that is why I suggested to the OP that he should be reporting this to the NHTSA. FR would point out that it did not make the chassis, so and on till the truth comes out.

What I'm saying is forest river "sabre" does not condone adding a hitch or pulling anything behind there 5th wheels.
If you do the warranty on the frame is void.
It's obvious that the op pulls a trailer behind his 5th wheel therefor warranty void.
Just stating facts.
