Brake issue

I have 2012 Sabre 31RETS I bought on 4/4/2012. I also bought a 2012 Ram 2500 to pull it at the same time. While on a trip last fall I got a fault code on my built brake controller that said to check the trailer brake wiring. I lose my trailer brakes when this code is displayed. The code only stays on for a short period, maybe 30 seconds or so. this may happen 10 to 20 times a day, or it may not happen for several days at time. I have had four mechanics look at it and they can't find anything wrong with it. One suggested it might be the brake controller. Has anyone had a similar problem. HELP!!! I am afraid to use this trailer.

Think of two causes: as you said defective controller or brake lead touching ground? I'd bet on the controller.

I'd have to go with the brake lead touching ground being a more common problem and knowing the way FR wires things.

Could be the connector between trailer and truck maybe...bad crimp or something loosing contact when you hit a bump...

or hitting metal and shorting out. Add a 3 amp fuse in line and see it if blows, if it blows it a short not the controller.

I had this issue on a travel trailor and it was a skinned wire touching metal and shorting out the system. Mine was in the axle where the wires went from on side of the trailer to the other.

The most common cause that I see at work is a poor connection at the 7 way plug. Lightly sand the contacts of the vehicle side and gently spread the contacts to provide a tighter fit with the trailer end. The contacts in the vehicle side are a folded over design "v" and can be slightly spread apart. This procedure has repaired approx. 90% of the faults.

What Grizzly said is most likely cause. Clean connections and add dielectric grease to protect them.

Had a similar issue a couple of years ago after some major rain. Water had got into the connector.
