I have one spot just like yours on our new 385BH at the front of our bedroom slide and the dealer said they called the factory and was told to put a relief cut in the outer panel and even sent them the strip to cover the cut.

When our dealer called, the Factory said they want it back.

You are going to have to give them a shot at fixing it. I know you feel like you deserve new one which I felt the same way when I was going through the same thing with a side wall replacement. They did make it right in the end for us and we are happy with the repair. The repair to replace a side wall is not that complicated. I watched it personally and it took about 3 hours from start to finish. Stand your ground and be firm and they will make it right.

I just hope I get it back before June as I got all my RV travel plans lined out. I also hope its a good fix will have no further problems. I can;t believe I bought it this way. Should have asked , but I thought it was normal and just slight cosmetics. It is what it is so no use getting mad.

Make sure your contact person at the plant knows your travel plans. Our guy at Sabre was aware of ours and made it happen.

Hmmm.... Received my 2014 340RK back from the dealer about 1 1/2 weeks ago. They had it since thanksgiving. For the most part everything that I specified to be fixed was. Took it out for 4 nights and was just putting it back away and noticed this bump under the middle of my bedroom slide. Looks very similar to the pics posted above. Also noticed that it looks like there has already been a stress relief cut below the front corner of that slide like was mentioned as well. Guess it will be making a trip to the dealer tomorrow.

Bulge under Slideout

Tonight I saw this dreaded bulge under the middle of my bedroom slide. It looks like a relief cut had already been done to the front corner of my bedroom slide. In the above post is the picture with the strip covering the cut.

Mine came with that relief cut, and through my research I read that is typical join now purposely put on most 5ers. Mine bulges on both side but the front bulge is larger. I read if you knock it and its hard , and does not flex this is an intrusive swell not a delamination from water or manufacture defect. The force pushing from inside frame may be due to frictional force of the bedroom slide. Something else may be amuck. If its not bad, and due to road aging it could be left alone. But mine was brand spanking new. By the way, I took a trip to the Houston RV show last week and closely looked at a 340RK and other models by Columbus as well as other brands. Only on the 340RK did I see the slightest bulge. You had to really look close but you could barely see the raised area in the same two spots as my rig.

My Rig made it to the Plant 1400 miles. He did it in 30 hours, and he even stayed over night in Arkansas .

Yeah, mine is new as well. Purchased in Mid-October and did 2 weekend shakedown outings. Took it to dealer right after thanksgiving and they had it until about Feb 7th. Went out for a short 3 night outing and now this. So total of 7 nights and about 400 miles.

I am located in the Seattle, Washington area so if it has to go back to the factory it is about a 2200 mile trip or so. I guess we will just see what happens.

Bobfa...... How far down is your relief cut from the front of your slide? I can't tell from the pics. Mine is just a few inches from the from of the slide. Also, I only have one bulge and it is above where the overhang and front wall come together. I believe it feels hard not soft.

About 5 inches back from front corner of slide.

We have a 2013 340RK as well. We have had other issues , but not line that. The factory seems willing to address the issues as they arise. I'm a little skeptical of my dealer though.
Hope you luck with your issue.

Well I just got back from the dealer. He believes that the issue is being caused by stress at the joint. He said about a year ago they had a 320 RL with the same problem. He said it is more of a cosmetic issue than anything but since it is under warranty it make sense to get it fixed. They pretty much said what Bobfa's dealer did in regards to the fix. They would basically grind it down, make the fix and then re-fiberglass to make it look just like new. He said it would be a Forest River approved repair under warranty and carry a lifetime warranty for as long as we own the trailer.

He took pics and is sending them into forest river for approval. He does not think it will be a issue or have to go back to the factory since it is identical to the 320 RL the fixed. We will see!

Heading Home

They decided not to pull the side wall out for replacement. It was a manufacture related delamination. They cut, re-injected glue, and created a seam. They did this on both side under the slide-out. The middle seam came with it and is typical for most 5th wheelers. Replacing the sidewall could have meant more time and problems. I guess this is OK. I need my 5th back pretty badly for summer plans so no worries. Here are some Pics taken by the factory.

Glad to see you got it back. It's crazy how long it takes for the factory to get things done. At least it's back before your plans began. Happy camping

bobfa, When I was out at the factory last week oicking up mine I noticed that all of the new unit in line had at least on cut / seam placed in them. So it looks like the factory is now placing these in brfore shipping out. Good luck. Let me know if you get new tires.

Yep Suggest you have someone open & close the slide while you watch your outside wall. Stress Cut is BS how else can you peel the skin to fix the stud.
