Columbus 320RS

Hello all,

We are 99 percent sure that we are going to buy a Columbus 320rs and wanted to ask owners of the 320rs what their overall opinion of the fifth wheel is?

Quality of the workmanship, fit & finish, any major issues that we should watch for?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Cliff

Columbus 320RS

We weren't shopping for a new rv when we saw the Columbus 320RS at a show. It just grabbed us as being different from all the normal offerings. After 5000 miles of travel since June we feel we know it well and are satisfied. It was the little details like the long downspouts to keep black streaks off the sides and the general feel of quality that sold us. We find it very liveable. The moveable island was a selling point. It's one issue was that the wheels broke through the floor vent when strapped into the travel position. solved by moving the wheels farther back so theyre behind the vent when in position. Other issues have been easy fixes. The shower track was in backwards, drain holes pointing to the floor (bad idea) and not silicone sealed. There is some odor from the sink drains. Not a big deal, just have to be dilligent about cleaning them. We plan to install p-traps when we get home. The bedroom sliding door was sagging, needed to take it apart and re-fasten the track. The straps that hold it aren't really adequate. we have a squeak in the bed where it's hinged for storage. The beautyfloor in the living area is buckeling. There are bumps running the length of the slides.
We remind ourselves that it is a product of Indiana and as such has the normal issues caused by the production mentality of the industry. We are lucky to have the ability to fix/improve almost anything ourselves. If you read the forums and see what others have issues with that will be a big help. We have the cream/brown colors and it gets attention everywhere. We have people come up to us at campgrounds, waysides and other stops admiring it and even taking pictures. We always enjoy talking with them.
good luck, Bob and Carol

Love the camper design but have had several small issues that never should have gotten past their Quality Control.

The wife and I bought our 320rs in June 2013 and we LOVE it. Only a minor problem, (the roof antenna was missing) but its been otherwise, perfect! This is our 6th rv and by far, the best of all our previous RVs. Fit, finish, features and style are wonderful and I would HIGHLY recommend this line to everyone. Bottom line...go for it and you won't be sorry!

We have had ours a (320) little over a year and are just now getting to enjoy it. We just retired and are planning on using it a lot more. Yes we had problems ours was 267 to come off line. Floor had bubble but dealer fixed. Wish dealer would have told us about all the options. We would have gotten the auto leveling and JT strong arms we wouldn't trade it.

Took delivery in April 2013 and have had many problems, took it to factory from California in May - June last year, that set of problems were fixed. Now have others, squeaky-soft spots in the floor, fan in living area has shifted and now squeaks. I have made repairs to many small items, now it's going back to the factory to correct the things that should have been taken caught in quality control.

LazyMoon, I suggest you also check the Columbus owners group on Facebook. Most absolutely love theirs but there are some good frank comments. We just ordered a 320 last week, after following the reviews for 2 years.

We have a 2014 320 RS and put simply we love it.
We picked ours up from the dealer in Aug 2013 and have already camped 49 days and made separate trips from Alabama to Texas, Tennesee, Geogia, Florida and North Carolina.
The only problems were 1. TV cable connections and improper routing that was fixed by the dealer before we left the lot. 2. One forward jack shear pin broke and would not operate, we contacted Lippert direct and recieve a new jack in 2 days and installed in less than 30 minutes. 3. 2/3s of the LED light stip under the awing has stopped working - I still have not attempted to contact Dometic for a replacement (just procrastinating)
This is our 3rd new rv and even though they were well made, we had many more problems on the others by far than this. Our dealer was excellant in every regard compared to previous ones.

When you say roof antenna was missing, is it a crank up type?

We have a early 2013 320RS and love it. We have had only minor issues. I don't think you can find a better rv with all the amenities in this camper unless you pay double the price. We have a Columbus rv group on Facebook with 500 members. That says a lot for Columbus. Check it out.

I think the missing roof antenna is the one for the basement radio. It will sometimes loosen during transport/towing and sometimes be found lodged under the rear AC unit. A single drop of Blue Loktite at the very base of the antenna will stop this from happening. Just don't get it over all the threads as that will attenuate the radio reception signal.

Have had ours since May 7 2013. Have pulled about 4000 miles since. Minor details mostly, Sofa frame broke at back within 2 weeks, drawer supports at back were hung by one screw, made new supports that rest on floor so drawer does not fall down Have been in Al and now Fl since Nov, So far it is working out quite well. You will enjoy!!

We're having trouble finding dust bags for the central vac in our 320RS. It uses a Eureka bag model OX. Has anyone found an outlet for them? Thanks, Bear

Eureka, Amazon and some Sears stores. Order online! If you find a brick and motor vacuum repair store, I am sure they could get the bags for you. Look in the back of the manual for your vacuum. It has replacement bag order info in it.
