Dually or Not????

We are looking to trade our 2010 Ram 2500 in on a new Dodge but can't decide if we want to get a dually or the 3500. We love the look of the dually but worry about the size of it when just running around town. Your opinions would be greatly appreciated. We will be using it to pull our 2014 QSIK. Thank you!

even though a single wheel 1 ton would be within the numbers for payload, a dually would be more stable. I just purchased a new Coachmen 5th wheel just a bit lighter than what you just got and my 1 ton single wheel Chevy handles it wonderfully. I'd say either would be fine

We use our dually for all of our traveling and regularly around town. It is very rarely an issue except for when I need to parallel park it- and even that, I'm not sure if it's the extra width or simply length that is the issue.

I have only found a few things that we can't do in the dually that we would be able to do in a single rear wheel drive. Automatic car washes are about it.

my single wheel is a crew cab long bed so length is definitely an issue. Takes at least 1.3 parking spaces

A dually keeps you on the straight and narrow. Are you considering gas or diesel?

I was in the same boat your in now back in '11. I went with the 3/4 ton even though the dually was just a little bit more.
Now I'm going to trade my 3/4 ton in for a '15 dually when they start hitting the lots.
I should of just bought the dually in '11. Kicking myself.

I don't know why more single wheel 1 tons are bought. Mine was barely any more money than a 3/4 ton, and payload is WAY higher.

You will not be able to get a new Dodge pickup because they separated from Ram in 09 and Ram became it's own company under Chrysler.

I had a 1 ton dually back in the 90s. Kinda miss that truck. That truck was solid in the rear towing 35' ball mount and 46' FW race car trailers. If I was able to do it now, I would get a dually myself if purchasing a large TT or FW.

As for driving arond town, get your walking shoes on. I would always park in the back of the lot so that I could take up more than one spot if needed. In the city, where I would have to parallel park, that was my least favorite. Trying to find enough room wasn't easy.

I have had both. I am back to a single diesel. Noticed no difference in the stability of towing my fifth wheel. But when we are traveling if we want to go out for dinner and/or go to attractions parking is a lot easier.

I would prefer to tow with a dually but when it comes to DD, I much prefer the single wheel truck!

I am still kicking my self for buying the 2500. I could have gotten a lot more piece of mind with the 3500.

If I was on the fence between a 3500 SRW and DRW, I would not make the same mistake again. DRW all the way.

I tow a 35CKTS with a 3/4 ton, SRW, with air bags on the rear. I have no squat and the TV and CC are stable.

I have a 2012 Ram 3500 SRW. I went into the dealership a year ago to buy a 2500 only to find that the 3500 was a couple hundred more. It was worth it for the extra payload.

I love my truck but looking back, if the DRW wasn't much more I would of convinced the Mrs we needed it. Of course we don't but I love the look of them.

I'm probably better off with a SRW though as I daily drive the truck and parking spaces at work are tight.

So i would vote SRW if you daily drive and see a lot of parking lots like myself.

We have the RAM 3500 duallys, to pull a big rig they are the way to go, a much smoother ride and more stable.

I have a Silverado 2500 diesel, extended cab, capacity 17,500. My rig loaded comes in very close to that. I added air bags, but probably don’t need them. No stopping, handling or stability issues, in the mountains or flat lands. We can park anywhere.

Not sure where you live but an empty dually is a nightmare during Minnesota winters. Make sure you really need it.
