Fell in Love with my RS320 Again

Spent the weekend on the Sacramento Delta with family. The weather was PERFECT. Grilled a Tri Tip and ate inside. There were 6 of us and being able to move the island and use it as a buffet table was great. This is the best RV I've ever owned. Added some insulation to the front cap but that's another post.

I also added insulation in the front cap of our 320. It made a nice improvement.

The foil was Reflextic from Lowes. Used a 24"x 25' roll and attached it using a staple gun. We did the closet with the sliding doors up to the roof line and the closet that's plumbed for a washer dryer. We also did all the cabinets and ceiling on the entertainment center slide including behind the tv. It has made a huge difference in keeping the bedroom cool.

Sorry, I can't find my photos. The foil may be an easier install. I used insulated foam board. I believe it is R10 rated. I attached it to the metal studs behind the front closet with self tapping screws (with large washers to prevent busting through the foam) & Grab it chaulk. I also covered each seam (where foam board pieces joined) with foil duct tape. I covered the entire wall cutting to fit at the ceiling & I covered the exterior of the access box (using Grab it) with a thinner foam board that did not exceed the thickness of the box frame. This allows removing the access box with no issues. The interior of the entertainment center cabinets gets very warm on hot days so I plan to copy Fred & Toni's idea using foil there. Regardless of the method you choose, it is beneficial. I left the hanging fiberglass insulation installed at the factory but it has many large gaps & is quite useless (in my opinion).

Insulation

Yes, if all those Columbus owners only new that the front of their unit has literally zero insulation. I too discovered this when I had my front cap replaced. What a disappointment! I ended up removing a cabinet in my front closet, cutting insulation foam sheets and using sealant and aluminum tape to completely seal everything. It was a lot work but has made the bedroom much more comfortable.

Sorry this took so long, we were out on the Colorado river for the past couple of weeks. First time posting pics, hope they come out ok. Here are the cupboards on the entertainment/kitchen side and the closets on the cap.

Did you also insulate the back of the sliding doors and wall beside them in the cap closet?

We did the side walls, but not the back of the sliding doors. Didn't think about it but that's a good idea.
Thanks

In arm planning to work on mine soon. In planning, one post and the Reflrctix site suggest that the R factor increases when allowing for space between it and wall. If that is the case I would think it might be very effective on the back of the doors and wall, as well as the hot spots you have already hit...assuming you aren't opening the doors frequently.

From what I read Reflectix impact against the wall is R3. When space is allowed up to R21. Either way I plan to hit the areas you did and if possible the doors.

Insulated the back of the doors fathers day weekend and it helps. Not as dramatic a difference as when we did the cap. Sorry no pic's. Next will be the bedroom floor/basement ceiling.

Have you tried the Reflectix on the shower skylight? We did this on our fiver and class C, huge difference for both. We were able to slide it between the clear and frame, no tape required. Our clear part of the skylights is rounded so there is a natural gap to enhance and increase the R factor. We no longer close the doors to the bathroom on the fiver, to keep the heat out of the rest of the rig.

We have it in all windows when idle and leave it in many of those we don't use, all the time...used velcro. We only have about a 2 x 2 section left from a 2ft by 100 ft role.

Fell in Love with my RS320 Again

Think reflect is is now on my shopping list and honey do list. We've been using those old style silver backed car window shades, cut to fit our windows. We slide them in between the night shades and the window. Works but I think the reflectix would do better.

There is a difference…and it makes a difference.
