first trip and "water hammer"?

Got to take my 2015 Puma 25RS on our first campout together last weekend. Things went very smoothly, just a few hiccups. My GMC Canyon towed it well, returned right at 12 MPG running at 65MPH. Camping with night time temperatures at about 40 degrees kept the furnace busy the first night. Second night we ran my tiny Pelonus heater instead and slept better without all of the cycling of the furnace all night. Temperature was more consistent too!

Hiccup #1 was finding that the microwave had a number of buttons that didn't work. all of them on the left vertical row of the control panel don't work. Shopping for a new one. Maybe a convection microwave? Anybody out there have one in their 25RS to recommend?

Hiccup #2 is what I believe is called water hammer. Whenever we open a hot water faucet the water line from the water heater to the kitchen sink "vibrates", making a banging noise. Anyone have any experience with this?

Were you on public water or running the pump when the noise occurred?
Water hammer usually occurs when you shut off the water flow, not when you start it.

If you were running the pump, then you could have heard the vibration of the piping against a wall or partition because they weren't secured very well.

Agree with the comment of BR plus you may give thought to adding a small pressure tank to stop the sudden drop of pressure in that line prior to the pump starting. just a thought

The stuttering can be caused by improper relief valve settings on the pump. There are you tube videos available for setting relief valves online.

Pipe chatter

SeaDog has the right idea. If you have room for a pressure tank anywhere you can tee it into a cold water line it works great. Our water pump is under the bed next to fw tank and the last thing we want is to have the pump come on if we need to get up and pee in the middle of the night. I added a two gallon pressure tank to the outlet of the water pump with a tee and a shutoff valve. The pump will pump the tank up to pressure and the pump will not run until the tank is empty. The tank has a diaphram in it that is pressurized. At night we switch off the pump and there is enough pressure in the tank to flush many times.
It is also a good idea to find where the pipes are banging and secure them for when the pump does run.

You can install a water arrester in the water line.........I did that for my toilet in my 5th wheel.....get one with sharkbite fittings. Took me about 10 minutes to do mine.

Hi Justin,
Welcome to the forum.
You should start a NEW post in the classifieds section.
You will get a better response to your post and it won't clutter up the subject of this thread.

I suggest you investigate the use of a convection oven in place of the microwave that came with your RV. Convection Ovens need much more exhaust capability and generally do not do well in a enclosed cavity/cabinet designed to hold a standard microwave.

You say it happens when you open the faucet and not when you close it. Interesting. If the faucet you speak of has a spray nozzle, there is a diverter inside the faucet that could be the culprit. If I had to guess, I'd say it's just your water pump making the line vibrate when it kicks on.
