Fridge not very cold.

Freezer can't make ice. I read that I should check level but I have auto level and it should be level. It is not over packed either. It is stuck at 38-40 degree. Unit is not even a year old. I am in Amarillo, TX and it is pretty hot during day but at night it still does not get colder.

Any insight as to why?

Is it set on the highest setting?

Which refer do you have?

Is the the slide thermistor on the fins inside slid up or down?

Model RM 1350

Coldest setting.

The other question I don't know ?

Last night it did get down to 33 degrees. Maybe the outside temp affects it?

look at the silver fins near the top of the fridge section, you should see a plastic holder with a thermistor partially inside of it moving it into or out of the holder adjusts temp. I am in florida and even in full sun I can freeze things in the fridge section

Is this the thing you are speaking of? I pushed it to the left some before the picture. It was more to the right than what it is in picture now.

Is the camper "new to you"?

That looks like a "hack" to get it colder. It should be on a "sliding" piece of plastic that attaches to the fins.

1) Check to MAKE SURE the fridge (not the camper) is level LEFT to RIGHT. Coils run left to right at the back of the fridge. Use a "bullet level" on the floor of the fridge.

2) Open the fridge rear access panel. Examine the area under and around the burner for a yellowish/green corrosion. Leaking ammonia stains the tubing and surrounding steel that color.

3) Examine the cooling stack. The vent must be clear of obstructions as cooling the hot tubing is what makes the fridge cold. Consider adding 12 volt computer muffin fans to boost cooling air in hot environments. NOT necessary but can help a sick fridge. My camper was in 110 degree desert heat in full sun and the freezer stayed at 7 degrees F without modifications. Bug nests and construction debris in the stack are one of the causes of a warm fridge.

4) Same cooling on gas or just AC? The AC heater might not be making good contact with the ammonia boiler.

5) Box or Freezer? or Both too warm? If one or the other you could have too much food stuffed in there. Air must circulate for even cooling as the Box is cooled by the fins and the freezer is cooled by a plate on the back wall.

I have a 1350. You set the temp with a digital control, not the slide. (I haven't noticed that thermo-sensor there in mine but I imagine it's there.)

replace the thermistor thingy magic with a product called Snip the Tip. It gives you a working thermostat for the fridge. Works like a charm. It's about the size of a thumbnail and takes about 3 min to install yourself. Definitely worth it! because the thermistor thingy will eventually fail in which case everything will freeze and explode or it just won't get cold enough. Happy Camping!

There is no "thermistor thingy". It already has a digital thermostat much more sophisticated that what you are recommending.
