FW/Scooters

I have a questions for anyone who has put weight on the back of their FW. We had the factory install a "boat" hitch on our Columbus 320RS. We have two scooters that we would love to take with us. Any suggestions or is anyone else doing this?? Do we need a separate trailer? open or closed? or just a carrier that goes into the hitch and hangs off the FW? HELP??? Short of taking two trucks..... there has to be a good answer..........

Thanks

I have a Kymco 150 scooter that weighs 220#. I plan on putting it on the fold down rack on the back of my 320RS. It's good for 450#.
I also have a scooter carrier that mounts in a 2" hitch receptacle, which I have mounted on the front of my RAM. The carrier instructions specifically states, "Do no mount on rear of RV". I think the rear bounces too much for the scooter carrier.
Good luck with yours.

We have a 49CC and a 125CC ................. maybe the 49cc would fit on the back. Will look into a carrier for the front of the truck!

Here's my guess. Think your F/W looks similar to this. Nice unit by the way, I think the rear mount was designed for this type rack, just not lots of weight. I figure you'd add a moment or torque of over 1200 ft/lbs to behind the axle with no counter balance to the front. Not a good situ. I used to carry a 70-80 # scooter inside, I could store it over the axle and tie it down there. Some states allow tandem tows but not all. Not sure of the weights of scooters and estimated overhung weight distance but its a bunch.

It will handle it because the weight will hold 500lbs. Most scooters weight 200 lbs but the size does affect the fit. Width can be an issue. I have a huge Honda generator that weighs 350 lbs and it handles it just fine.

If you use good tie downs it won't be a problem because the equipment moves with the trailer and mount
