HiSense/Samsung surround sound

I am pleased to report that using a digital coaxial audio cable out of the HiSense TV to a coax in to fiber optic out converter and then using a fiber optic out to the Samsung entertainment system will give you surround sound.
You will need to go into the Tv menu select audio-select s/pdif-select dolby digital and then exit. On the Samsung receiver select source as digital-in. Remove the rca to mini plug for headphones from the Tv.

Sound Difference

Reddfinadict,

We have only watched a few minutes of DVD and TV, using the “factory fix” headphone jack set, set up, but thought the surround sound was functioning. Is there a significant improvement in sound, using the converter?

It will depend on whether you are content with stereo sound which is all you will get out of the headphone jack or if you prefer true 5.1 digital surround sound. It will also be dependent on the received audio signal. OTA broadcasts may or may not be broadcast in 5.1 dolby digital or may be in stereo. Some people may actually prefer the sound from the tv speakers which are quite adequate, they will sync to the video perfectly and the tv has a setting for simulated surround sound.

It wont effect your watching dvd's because that audio signal is processed and output directly by the Samsung system.

Thanks for the detailed clarification on the benefits. I knew there had to be some, just not sure what they were. Ordering the converter tonight.

If you have a Toshiba tv,you need to plug into the audio output on back center of tv. Set receiver to AUX.

last weekend I took that digital audio cable (that took forever to get here from China) and hooked it into the surround sound. And then moved it around ... didn't get the sound from the television to surround sound. This weekend decided to switch out satellite boxes (bedroom and living room) and as i was moving them I realized that it has a digital audio in......... so I tried and low and behold I got it!!! Happy Dance for me!! We even had local channels............... GREAT WEEKEND this time

redfinaddict,

We have the Hiscense/Samsung set up in our 320RS Columbus. By converter, do you mean a satelitte converter?

By the way, purchased the Columbus last month and after a Coachman and one other Forest River product, this one is by far the best!

Congrats! on the new rig we love our 320rs. We had a great trip from Texas to Virginia and back in June. Loved every minute in the Columbus.

No, the converter is not for a satellite receiver it is for OTA tv signals(crank up antenna). The problem is the tv only has a coaxial output for digital sound but the reciever has no coaxial input. The receiver has a optical input. You can add a coaxial to optical signal converter with a built in power supply that is fairly inexpensive. Paid arround $20 for mine. Be sure to check your tv's owners manual or inspect the outputs on back or side of tv as there are HiSense tv models that do have optical(toslink) outputs and you could have a different model than mine was. Also if you are content with stereo sound from OTA tv signals then there is no need for the audio converter. My better half tends to like to sleep in most mornings so I will use the tv speakers wich are quite adequate and have a setting for simulated surround sound instead of outputing sound through the receiver and surround sound speakers.

HiSense/Samsung surround sound

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I am still confused. Are your referrring to a digital converter? Can you give me an idea where I could get one and what to ask for?

My HiSense has a digital coaxil output while the Samsung DVD/Home Theater has an optical input and RCA input which I understand is not surround sound. Right now I have a connection to the RCA inputs on the Samsung to the headphone jack on the HiSense. I want to get the true surround sound from the TV with the antenna or cable if I am lucky enough to be in a campground with cable.

Try "coax to optical converter" in your favorite search engine. If you like PM me and I will send you a link. The bigger expense may be the cables. You will need one coaxial audio cable and one toslink/optical cable. I also added a surge protector/power strip so that I could plug in the converter wich has a built in power supply, tv and reciever all behind the tv.

Tv code for Samsung remote to control your hisense tv is 60. To set it turn on your tv and then on the Samsung remote press the tv button then press and hold the power button and enter 60, tv should turn off. You can now use the Samsung remote to turn tv on and off and change channels.

Exactly what I have been looking for. I will try setting the code next time we go out. By the way, I did find a converter for the digital coaxial cable to the optical cable to the Samsung and now have surround sound. Thanks for this valuable info.

How are you getting surround sound when the 320 doesn't have a 5.1 speaker setup?

I should have mentioned that you have to toggle back to the dvd/receiver button to control sound thru surround system using the samsung remote and then back to tv button to change channels or turn tv off.

Not sure why you say that wincrasher, the only thing that would be different than a home set up is that they use one of the satellite speakers in the cieling as a center speaker instead of normal placement directly above or below tv screen. It has left front, right front, center, left surround, right surround and sub woofer. You may adust distance and volume to each or use the auto set up with microphone at the listening position. What am I missing?
