Hot Water Heater Flying Insect Screens - Columbus 320RS

I have installed a screen for the furnace exterior vent/intake. I can understand this would be easy access and likely to attract mud daubers and other insects.

Unfortunately it does not appear that CAMCO makes an exact fit for the Columbus 320RS exterior hot water heater vent. The hot water heater vent has smaller openings, not sure if one is even needed.

Is this infestation issue really as big of a risk as the parts people and mfg's make it out to be?

Anyone dealing with the same issue...hot water heater flying insect screen for a Columbus 320RS? If so, what did you use...make and model number?

I believe DH is going to use regular window screen held in place with bread ties! I know he is doing that on the refrigerator for sure.

Camco does make fridge screens. Window screen also works. Just make sure you keep them clean. Crud on the screens will reduce fridge cooling by restricting air flow.

My 2012 Sabre 31 RETS-6 has a Suburban 12 gallon water heater. The large vent opening is 15"x12" which took a Camco #42146 screen. There is also a 4.5"x4.5" vent next to the large vent and takes a Camco 42150. I think the Suburban 10 gallon has the same vents.

Thanks, for that Information on the screens have you found anything else that I need to look at. I should be picking my 320rs up this weekend, but they have not contacted me yet. If you run into anything that needs looked at let us know and I will do the same if I ever get to hook on to it.

First thing I buy or install on any new RV is an electrical management system that has a surge protector. Will protect your RV electrical from bad park shore power. Something like Progressive Industries. Will shut off power if voltage is too low (to protect your AC compressor) or if voltage is too high, bad neutral, bad ground, etc. Good to have if you camp in some of the older COE parks where the electrical is many years old. This is something I don't go without.

I even removed the cover on the roof AC and covered the entire area between the compressor and the condenser as we had mud daubbers build a nest on the fan blades which caused a horrible vibration and about an hours work in 90+ temp to remove the blade and clean it. AC works great with the screen. Just have to inspect it from time to time to make sure it stays clean, but so far not a problem. Used the silver alum tape used on duct work to hold the screen, not the fabric duct tape as it deteriorates rapidly in the environment.
