Seriously, make sure that any jack you plan on using is rated for the load to be lifted. If possible you want to jack on the frame, if that is not possible, move your jack to as close as you can get to inside of tire and jack the axle at this point. Most frown at jacking on axles, but I have done it many times. Just make sure you are not out in the middle of the axle and I think you will be ok. Break your lugs before jacking and tighten them after letting jack down.
