In a pinch, a car battery will work, but the life of the battery will not last nor will it hold a charge for very long if you are disconnected from shore power. What make and model is your fridge? If it is an RV model, they require 12v to operate. Your battery is most likely toast and may have also fried your converter. If plugged into shore power, you should be getting 13-14 volts at your battery. You say you are plugged into 240v, are you 50 or 30 amp, and/or has your RV been adapted to 240v or do you step down the voltage to 120(30amp)?
