LT Tires

Ok Guys and Gals;

I am considering LT tires.

Can you let me know which LT Tires (brand and Model) you are running?

Please, only if you are happy with their performance. I am NOT re-starting the LT vs ST debate.

Thanks

What are you putting them on? Truck or trailer?

After my China bombs bombed I changed to Bridgestone Duravis 250s LT245/75 R16. A much better tire made here in the USA. So far so good.

LT Tires? I wouldn't if I were you. I would put either Maxis or Goodyear Marathon Trailer tires on your rig. I's put in metal valve stems as well.

Goodyear LT235/85R16 on my 5th wheel. Replaced the Goodyear Marathons, which one blew after approx 6k miles on them. The wheels on my unit are rated for 110 psi and have metal stems installed. Went to a RV show in Ft Myers a couple of weeks ago and noticed that the higher end larger 5th wheel units had LT's installed from the factory. I am completely satisfied.

My opinion is useless.... I would read from any manufacturer/s about installing LT vs: ST tires on any trailer application. In the end it will always be YOUR choice. You will never go wrong with Goodrich or Michelin tires.

What is your reasoning? ST tires are speed rated to 65 MPH, have an extremely poor track record on heavier trailers, so, please explain your reasoning if you would.

Maxxis, it is. After 2 adventures in RVing (blowouts) I switched to Maxxis based on opinions from a RV forum a few years ago. The last blowout cost my insurance co $6100.

Hey Guys

This is the original poster here. As I stated I wasn't trying to re-ignite the LT vs ST debate but if you want to have it go for it. You can never tell when something new might pop up.

I was JUST asking what LT tires you have that you think perform well. Giving me manufacture and size is fine but the model of the tire would be most helpful.

Debate on!!!!!

The LT vs ST debate is almost like the 1/2 towing light weight 5er debate.

No clear consensus and a LOT of personal opinions

I believe I saw a post from WMTire (Site team and tire professional that outlined the whys and why nots of LT & ST tires)

But I remember a quote from a tire seminar I went to last year: "Special trailer tires are designed with a thicker side wall than passenger vehicle tires because they need to handle more vertical load."

Also, I have a pretty good RV101 Article. here is the link:
Trailer Towing – ST Tires vs. LT Tires | RV 101® your education source for RV information

Handkook F19's a 14 ply rating you will never look back. The tire shop here has never had one fail. Ever. Over 10,000 miles without a hitch on my Columbus 365 RL.

Note- we think you may be confusing a member named tireman with
site team volunteer moderator extraordinaire wmtire.
