New Columbus 320rs tires

We just purchased a new 2013 Columbus 320rs but noticed that the tires on it were an unknown brand to me. I was wondering what tires came with other Columbus 5th wheels and what the track record is on these brands. We had problems with Carlisles a few years ago on another TT so of course an unfamilliar brand is of some concern to me. Looking forward to our first trip out with it but we will have to wait 10 days to pick it up!

What brand do you have on your trailer?

Probably Akurat tires. They are not a super, well known brand but they are good for the job. Just keep an eye on pressure and look at the tread (like you should do on ANY tire) after each pull or when stopping for fuel. Feel the tire(s) surface with the back of your hand and you will note there is a major difference in operating temp. Just try to recall if you had rough roads just before stopping or a short fast curve you just negociated that may have heated up the tires on one side. A tire minder type of electronic (I know, something more to buy) monitor will really save your bacon not to mention greatly reduce any damage to your 5th wheel if there is a tire problem, by alerting you to impending failure. Most, if not all tires coming with a new trailer are within specs as far as the DOT is concerned but ENSURE they are rated for YOUR trailer. Just look at the sidewalls and if they are the tire spec'd for your trailer weight, etc. then you should be OK. When their time is up, and I mean time, not necessarily miles, buy the best tire you can afford. At least you then have piece of mind from that expense, for a while, of course something else will come up and...

In my opinion and if you can afford it, I would pull the trailer from the dealer directly to a tire shop and put the next size larger, up the load range one notch and balance new tires from either GY Marathons, Maxxis or a major brand tire with a mfg date of not older than 2612. My experience with all OEM tires is it is not a matter of will I have tire trouble, but when.

Great advice from Big John. Run the tires you have, but keep an eye on them as far as pressure goes. They are probably the same tires I have on my 320RS. If you want to change them out after a few years, then do so.

Just don't waste money when you don't need to.

Weatlake brand tires on my 2014 320RS I took delivery on 5-7-13. They have a good looking tread pattern on them! I plan on running them two years max and then change out. Congrats on your 320, hope you like yours as much as we like ours!!

Thanks for the info...I believe my FW has weatlake tires. I have always taken care of my TT tire, proper inflation, covering etc. When the time comes, around 4 years from now, I will probably replace them with Maxxon tires as they seem to have an excellent reputation. Now I need to unload my current TT and store everything acumulated from 2009 when we purchased our Flagstaff. I am trying to remember if the slides on the 320rs are electric or hydralic along with a host of other things, as well as print out a PDI sheet for our walk thru on 6/8 when we take delivery. I have seen many post about mods on this unit so I will also have to back and see which ones might work for us!

If you take many long trips, I would wager you will not make 4 yrs before having to replace them even if you keep them properly inflated, etc. I sure haven't experienced any luck with oem tires on rv trailers.
