We live in Winnipeg and are off next weekend to Minneapolis for their RV show. It's an 8 hr drive so weather will be a determining factor. Looking for new 5er and hope they have some of the models we are looking for on the floor. So far we have only been able to see most of them online. We go to the RV show in Wpg each year and if your interested in 5ers it's a waste of time! mostly bumper pulls.
We might buy in the US but the Loonie keeps dropping, down 10% in the last year. Ouch! A bit concerned about servicing as the Cdn dealers are real knobs when it come to units purchased in US. One told us outright they won't service them. Kind of short sighted in my opinion

Charli, they cannot refuse warranty work on a brand they sell, plain and simple. They may not give priority, but they cannot refuse, contact manufacturer if they give you this crap. Having said that, I would never let that sway my decision anyway, as with the $$ I save I could pay for work off warranty and still be way ahead. I did buy when $ was at about 97 cents , so definitely worth pricing out and seeing if dealer will match. Remember if you buy off the lot, then they bought the trailer at par or close, only a factory order will be more $$

Chicago does love its sport teams! Your Jets are looking much better these days. Could be all the former Hawks?

Charli ( 2 posts up) says they are making the drive down from Winnipeg to hit the same show.

We are at the Minneapolis RV and spent 5 hrs looking. DW had to tell me to close my mouth a couple of times cause I was drooling. Lots of great RVs to look at. Saw the Columbus 320rs that we fell in love with online. Looks just as good in person. Talked to the finance guy and we may go back tomorrow. He offered us reasonable $'s on our trade and said if we give him $200 deposit we can lock in our price and still back out anytime and get our money back. If we sell our unit in the mean time we just take it off the deal. The price was around $45k for the 320. Got a price from RV Wholesalers for a similarly equipped unit for 42,500. Given the distances involved this deal makes more sense and perhaps we can get them to come down a bit. DW loves to shop here so if we have to come here for warranty work she won't need any convincing.
Going to a dealership in the morning to look at the Mountaineer 331 and Cougar 333. The Mountaineer is close to the Columbus but a little pricier.
We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Haven't priced it out at home yet. Going to see the Columbus dealer next weekend at an RV show in Brandon and will get him to price one for me. If memory serves (and it often doesn't) we saw a Columbus 320 at the RV show in Winnipeg 2 years ago and I think the show price was $60k. After factoring the exchange rate (darn that Sinking Loonie) thats still about $10k less.
The interesting thing is that the salesman at home said he couldn't recommend the Columbus as their service dept had seen a number of the units that they sold come back in for work. Will find out next weekend exactly what kind of problems as for the most part my research says that their reliability has been pretty good, especially after the first model year bugs were worked out. His motivation may simply be that they are no longer carrying the Columbus and he is recommending the Cougar and Crusader as those are their main lines.
Hey! For those that follow the Wildcat threads I met Wildcat Chris. Had a nice chat and saw the Snow-leopard (I think that's what they call it). The concept 327. Built in solar panels were nice and the Induction range would be nice to have. Not sure what the Amp draw would be for that though. Dry wt was about 11,500#

Was there all day (10-7). Just doing research. Planning to pull the trigger soon. Charli there was a RV World salesmen for Columbus line that was sooo pushy and following my extended family and myself. We couldn't get away from him fast enough!

I got a quote from RV Wholesalers on a Sabre. They were higher than the local (MPLS) dealers. I worked with Mitch at RV Wholesalers.

Kaschultz, we talked with Rod from RV World and he was fine. We had wanted to look at a 331 Mountaineer but there wasn't one at the show. Talked to Gregg from Quality RV and he mentioned they had one back at the dealership so we arranged to meet him there this morning. After looking at it and getting an idea on price, trade terms and timing my DW and I went for coffee and decided on the Mountaineer over the Columbus. Dropped frame for extra storage in pass through, huge pantry and linen closet accessable from both bedroom and bathroom plus the fact that Montana's have been around forever vs Columbus' 3 years were the deciding factors. Ended up phoning a dealer back home and told him we were at the RV show in Minneapolis ready to sign and we agreed on a pretty fair price, I think. Ended up about $4k higher after all taxes, trade value, etc. and we will end up with a local dealer for servicing and more flexibility on delivery date, etc.
Now I have to decide on hitch and pin box and get my drivers license upgraded. Then we are set to handle the retirement lifestyle we have been dreaming about.

Another thing we've been doing the last few years when our dollar was strong was open up a US bank account at our local bank. Everytime we had money to spare it went in there. When we pulled the trigger on our 365 it didn't hurt as much when the $ went down 10 cents. I keep hearing it's gonna go down another .05 cents or so.
