We have a brand new Solaire 267BHSK and our first planned trip is this weekend. Temps are expected to drop in the low 30s for 24 hours. I'm a little nervous about frozen pipes, etc. Does the furnace run off propane or electricity? How long will propane last at those temps? We were going to use a space heater inside but I guess the furnace won't kick on if we do that and heat the underbelly. Any advice?

Hi-

You've probably figured this out by now but the spaceheater is the way to go. It's amazing how much even a little heater can do. Our experience with the furnace is that it really consumes the propane, especially at the temperatures you indicated. Therefore, we usually use the space heater for primary heat and set the thermostat for the furnace to only kick on if the space heater can't do the job. Just be sure to have two full bottles, and set your selector on the tanks to draw from one tank only, so this way you empty one tank in the middle of the day rather than both tanks in the middle of the night (as Murphy's law will dictate!)

As for your water pipes, I believe most of them are actually inside the living space and only drains, etc. are in the underbelly. You should be fine.

surprised the dealer didn't inform you that the furnace uses only propane to heat. another bad PDI!

it's a good idea to use a space heater to supplement the furnace, IF you have electric hookups. you will have electric hookups, right?
if not, you won't be able to run the space heater and your battery will probably be dead by morning.

your propane usage will be fine.
don't know where your pipes are and whether you have a heated underbelly.

Thanks! We're on our 3rd night and still on the 1st bottle of propane. We're only using the furnace when the temps drop below freezing. So far its only been 1 night. We're loving it! Space heater is totally the way to go.
