Problems with roof structure-Not warranty issue, but manufacturer defect

About a month or two ago, we noticed a few "bubbles" in our rubber roof on our 2010 Sabre Palomino, only it turned out NOT to be bubbles but the wood underneath the rubber roof in 18" to 24" sections.

We contacted Forest River/Palomino and they said we needed to contact one of their authorized dealers to come out and take pictures of the roof and send a report back to them. The dealer came out and took pictures and sent a report to Forest River Palomino person we are working with, which cost us $125.00.

After a series of e-mails back and forth, Gary, with Palomino asked us if we were the original owner. When we told him we were the 2nd owner, he pulled the, I'm sorry we warranty the original owner. We explained this is NOT a warranty item, but a manufacturers defect. He said he would talk to the plant manager 2 weeks ago, now I can't even get a return e-mail.

Forest River needs to stand behind the quality of their product. If their own authorized dealer said this is a manufacturers defect, why won't they take his word?

We did what they asked us to do, now what? Why won't Forest River stand behind the quality of their workmanship and product?

Very disappointed. Any suggestions out there? Anyone else have the same problem?

Sent from my iPad using Forest River Forums Thanks for your help. Gene and Fern,

Hate to be blunt, but you bought a used unit and there is no warranty. You stated: "We explained this is NOT a warranty item, but a manufacturers defect". The 1 year manufacturer warranty IS for manufacturers defects- what else would you think a warranty is?????? If you want warranty, you either have to buy new or you buy an aftermarket warranty. This is on you and isn't Palomino's problem. Sorry.

How do you know that the previous owner properly maintained the roof?
You are talking about an used 6 year old unit.
Definitely not Palomino's responsibility.
Try something like that, with the auto manufacturer, on a used car. You wouldn't get anywhere with them either.

Your best hope is to play nice and see if they will give you a deal on a factory repair.

Just out of curiosity you don't even know what caused the plywood to come up yet there quite possibly is water damage that caused this .
I don't think you have a case here.

Forest warranties the product one year from purchase date for the original owners only which "Includes" manufacturing defects.
Why in your opinion is it a manufacturing defect?
5 years old ? Please.

I have to agree with this.

The warranty you get from FR is for manufactures defects! Even if the original owner still had it FR is not on the hook for it since it is outside that warranty period.

I understand that you are upset that something is not right but can you really sit here and blame FR for a problem a 5-6 year old unit. This just doesn't make sense to me. What makes you think this is a manufacturing defect, and how can you for sure say this. I am curious as to what your response is and justification?

Agreed with other posters, and Forest River Gary should have asked up front about age and ownership status. He cost the owner $125 by his lack of thoroughness. As customers we don't always know what the rules are. Reps must always "qualify" the caller. Palomino Gary needs some basic customer service training or another job. In my opinion.

Have to agree with most everyone else's comments and that is unusual, I can not see any way you could lay this on FR, people having problem with their trailers that are still under warranty have a hard time to and their the original owners.
