Rear bumper capacity

Looking to install a platform on the rear bumper of a 2018 Columbus 340RKC 5th wheel to carry a 100 lb inverter/generator. Any thoughts appreciated.

a lot of threads on this topic. Some would say zero. Not meant to carry weight at all. Proper reinforcement is required. Also voids the warranty if its a new unit.

I'd say not, too. Looks like an aluminum extruded bumper. If it was a solid steel welded bumper (mine is), that would make a big difference.

Looks like a thin steel bumper with an aluminum cover (rivets in the end). But either way, probably not strong enough to support over 100lbs bouncing down the road.

I take all my rigs to my favorite welding shop and have the rear bumper replaced with at least 1/8" steel 4x4. End caps will still fit. They also reinforce attachment to the frame and build a proper platform. Get estimates and I think you will be surprised at the affordable cost. And then you have no worries about strength

Yes you can, you will want to purchase the platform that mounts to the bumper frame works ( the part of the bumper that bolts to the frame), I would also look at the camper frame to make sure it can support the weight. Alot of campers come with this type of platform.

Carrying capacity of your bumper = one sewer hose.

My rear bumper has a sticker that says anything attacked to it will void the cassis warranty.
