Thanks for posting, found it interesting as we have a new rockwood on order. Having been through several auto plant tours, I am a little surprised at the fairly low tech conditions in the plant. Most everything is done by hand no robotics or significant technology. This explains perhaps why I have never had any warranty issues with the last few cars I purchased yet many on here appear to have issues with QC. Or perhaps we only hear from the ones who do have issues.... Anyway thanks again very informative

Add to that the information eDad gave on the original "back to the factory thread" about units only being "sample" QC'd and I think we all have our answer as to how some units (knockin' on wood re our new 5er) have multiple problems.

Example: All those different sized axles piled up together. Just how easy could it be for a worker having a bad day (or a Friday) to grab the wrong size?

DH is a logistics specialist. I wanna see his face when he sees that picture.

During inventory, it doesn't matter if the warehouse guys are supposed to have 20 of an item, and there IS 20 of them, but 19 are in the right spot on a shelf and 1 is 2' to the left; FAIL!

I see what I believe to be a ton of wiring waste as well. All those wires hanging out of the ceiling holes. How much of that is cut off as waste? Surely it doesn't take 8' of wire to wire in one ceiling light?

They seriously push our units around the factory on wheels? PUSH them? LOL do those wheels have brakes? I thought I saw a video from Goshen that showed units coming down some sort of conveyor. Don't remember what brand that was though.

eDad, I didn't see any pics of the floor being stood up vertical for under belly wiring and plumbing. That's not done there at the Sabre site like it was on the Goshen video? Edit; I can't seem to find a Goshen video showing the frames being lifted vertical for underbelly work, so I could be totally off the mark with this. I know I saw one *somewhere* but most likely it wasn't here on this forum, and may not have been FR. (wink)

Weezer, this will be in parts because I'm on my phone and can't easily refer back to your post. But, I think the axles were all in one pile- or they could have staged the next "X" units. They try to batch the same models together. It could be that that particular pile were all 7k axles and they're stored somewhere else.

No conveyer belts or system- yes, they're literally pushed around on wheels. One guy/gal is able to move a unit by him/herself. In fact, we were between units taking pictures when one came rolling towards us. And electrician was looking for something.

And, they do have the ability to flip the chassis upside down. They do it for installing the axles, at least. I don't know what all else that they install that way. My tour was generally after hours (by 4:30pm!) so not a whole lot of work was happening. Just a few stragglers catching up/ahead.

We've been to the Sabre plant ourslves , but I never get tired of seeing pics like the ones u posted on your website. We''ve been to 4 other RV mfgs and they all push the rigs around on the dollies.

I also enjoyed reading about your RV purchasing journey. It was pretty simular to what we did, except being here in mid-Michigan, we are a little luckier in that we have 4 Sabre dealers within 90 miles. We would have gone with any of them but fortnately, the dealer closest to us also had the best price.
