Sabres

Are you guys moving your Sabres down the road or hanging mostly in one spot. We like to keep moving every few days. I know you all love your rigs but is anyone using them as a camper instead of a home?

Just curious how they are holding up.

Thanks

Mine moves up and down the road every time we camp !
I do have some pretty rough roads in the neighborhood but she's no worse for the wear!

We are primarily weekend warriors 34 nights last year !

I've towed mine for 60 nights and right about 5,000 miles.

There have been little "surprises" depending on road conditions. But overall, it has done alright (I've never had a RV before).

Weekend warriors here. Never had a problem and things held up very well on our last Sabre. New Sabre has been towed but never slept in yet (of course as soon as we get some decent weather that will stay this will change.)

That's the way I want to do it, someday!! Just go!!

Had my Sabre just short of 2 months, been to Alabama and Myrtle Beach with a trip planned to Charleston in a couple weeks. On a "stand by" list for something to pop up close by but it's the busiest State Park in SC and not having much luck. I'd be gone right now if I could be.........

Weekend warriors here too. The only issue we've had with ours is on our last trip we hit a rough spot or two in the road and ended up with some damage on the moveable center island. Apparently some bounce in the rear end was enough that the framing that holds the casters to the island broke loose. Working with the dealer to get that fixed now. We've always secured it between the chairs when travelling but from now on it will be strapped down to floor to eliminate bounce on rough roads.

I've been concerned about this happening. I secure my island between the chairs as well, and lock the wheels. I strap it down best I can with the thin black factory provided straps, but to be honest, I don't trust them. I am constantly checking them and worried about hitting a bump and the straps sliding off the counter top. I'm in the process of securing some 2" wide thick rubber straps, so that it doesn't slide off the counter, but still trying to determine how to secure them to the floor.

We just added the Equa-flex suspension system to our rig and hope that will help with some of the bounce. If we're not able to figure a way to strap the island down, I was thinking of using some sort of lightweight blocks to put under the island to reduce the stress on the casters. Hmmm....lego blocks covered with a towel/blanket possibly?? Another option would be to transport it upside down but I am concerned about the stress on the counter top.

I'm going to come up with something! When I do, I'll be sure to post pics.

I thought about turning it upside down, but that would require everything be removed from it before turning it upside down. We (DW especially) like the movable island. I just need to find a way to secure it better.

We just took delivery of our Sabre April 20th. Spent the frist night in camp driveway. had to be out of state last weekend but going on a short drive south for a weekend this Friday. Kind of a shake down cruise. After that we'll be weekend warriors. We thought about seasonal camping but would like to check out "Pure Michigan" a little more besides I want to store inside when not using her.

At first I was concerned about the island & transported it with countertop down...after one trip I said this ain't working...since mid last year, I stap island down with provided strapping and lock all caster wheels...travels fine & never see any shifting when we open up @ campsite...you'll be fine

Road warrior here...pulled it to Myrtle Beach the first of March and stayed till the middle of April before coming home. Cooling unit in frig quit on the way down but Camping World in Myrtle treated me great. Love being on the road. Lots more to see.

Great Input

Thanks for all the input. Spent several hours in a 33 CKTS yesterday at the dealer (first unit we have been able to see). The dealer even hooked up a generator for us. Our rig choice is the 32 RCTS but the 33 got us close enough in the bedroom and bathroom to our configuration to really go over the unit. Figuring quality is the same throughout we were impressed. Really nice unit for the $$. Taking the wife to see a Jayco this weekend. We have a Jayco TT and just love it. We will make a final decision in the next few days. I really like the Jayco warranty & cabinets and I already have a great dealer. Sort of hard to leave the nest.

Thanks again, might be on the forum more often if we purchase.

We looked at a jayco 5er which was somewhat close to the sabre 32bhok "hard to campare total features" the jayco was more money for less options and was heavier.

The DW and I looked at the 33CKTS and liked it, but preferred the 32RCTS.

If you went with the Jayco.......you wouldn't be a FROG!

Good reason

Hay BombDoc;

Now why didn't I think of that. Of course being a FROG is the driving force to purchase one of these. Sometimes I feel like a FROG whether I own a Sabre or not. I imagine the Sabre will win the contest & I will place an order early next week. Jayco is a great unit but as the previous poster stated, money, weight and features make it a second choice. That said we all know who the boss is and if she likes the floor plan in the Jayco better, well what can I say. She really liked the 32RCTS & I think that will win.

Mind if I pass by the options I want to order by you? If you prefer to do in e-mail that would be fine. Ordered a beautiful 2013 F-350 last week. Nice to see this coming together.
