Setting up new Puma
I picked up my new Puma 253-FBS and I've been busy getting it set up. With lots of little problems popping up, its taking longer than I had anticipated.
I put in two big golf cart batteries, only to discover that they are too big for any of the readily available battery boxes. I finally found some and then discovered that the existing battery vent uses 1-3/4 tubing which is an oddball size. Fittings are not available.
Installing two roof vent covers went fairly smoothly, except that while we haven't had a drop of rain for three weeks, it started pouring while I was up on the roof. Scrambling down, I lost a screw. Oh well, another trip to the hardware store.
I can't believe that they would make a rig like this without a single 12 volt receptacle. I was also surprised to discover that I can't find a panel mount 12 volt outlet at the hardware store or auto parts store. I'll be taking another trip to Camper World.
One feature that seems to be a real problem is that with the slide in, the dinette table completely blocks access to the range, fridge, bathroom, and bedroom. I am thinking about taking the table top off of the legs and replacing it with a length of 1 x 14 (if I can find any). Then I can fasten the table top to the 1 x 14 with a piano hinge. The table would then flip up out of the way. Has anybody tried anything like this?
