Thumbs down Should have gone with my gut

I was so tempted to walk away from the new 386BH but I was assured that all the issues have been resolved and I wouldn't have any problems. Huge mistake and I have a decision to make.
When we picked up our new Palomino on 8/17 everything seemed OK. I should have done a more thorough inspection.

It started with the 6 point leveling system. Unless you are already on level ground, this is completely useless. The middle and rear legs won't even extend to the ground, much less lift one side or the other. If you pull the pin before they start to extend, the entire leg falls out onto the ground. Again, useless.

Next my wife tried to vacuum the floors and the attachments would not stay together. Eventually the hose broke apart from the handle. Couldn't get it back together. Luckily my dealer gave me one from the lot.

Next was the fridge noise. It is making a loud buzzing sound when the fan is on.

Then when I went to put the blinds down, half of them were uneven. One of them had the left string retainer screw 3" below the window and the right one was 6" above the window. This isn't just a simple mistake. The one at the door has a 3" gap at the bottom. The one at the dinette won't go down because of the cushions. Only way to fix that is to remove the cushions every time you want to lower the blinds.

Now we move on to the front AC. I am currently sitting at the dinette about 25 feet from the AC and the table is vibrating. A lot. I had to turn the TV up to full volume last night to hear it.

Several other problems that are fairly minor.

I went to my dealer and he was VERY accommodating. He told me we can go back on the deal and I can get my Cedar Creek back or they can fix everything. Again, bend over backwards. My wife and I discussed it and decided to hold on to it and just get everything fixed next month when we won't have time to camp. Not a huge inconvenience other than the 6 hours of travel required to do all of this.

So just now I was turning the TV in the living room and the cable fell apart at both ends.

SO I think we may be taking it back. There are just far too many things going wrong on a $75k camper for me to think it will all be OK.

What was wrong with your 2011 Cedar Creek?

My 2010 Flagstaff is just about "home" with all the mods and upgrades.
It would shock me speechless to even consider replacing it without a "Real Good Reason."

The floorplan really didn't work for us. With a 20 month old and another due in 2 months we really needed a bunkhouse. We were going to get the Cedar Creek bunkhouse but liked the floorplan of the Palomino better.

So, FunkyJunk, what did you do? I love the looks, layout, and idea of the Columbus. But these forum issues are scaring me.

WannaBcamping, We are still negotiating for the 320RS. I thought I knew what color I wanted but was told by the salesman that that color is now granite. And, one dealer sent me an order sheet with 5 colors on it and none were granite or pewter! :-) We know we want the grey exterior.
We are told the company is making them with a screen door, not the door with window (or maybe as well as the door with window?). The fireplace is listed in the brochure and online as standard, but the company rep is saying that the fireplace is an option. Just getting antsy....

Wow we just negotiated our deal August 31 and at that time pewter was on the list of 4 colours, never heard of granite. We were also not told about the door changing. We also paid extra for the fireplace option.
Maybe Chris Columbus can weigh in on this and let us know if there are changes happening with the Columbus line.
I certainly want to know as we may have ordered our unit but we are taking delivery until April 2013 and we were told it wasn't being ordered til a couple months before, so I guess it will officially be ordered around beginning of February 2013.

Dropped it of at the dealer a week and a half ago and not a word. I guess I'll call Monday and find out if they've even looked at it. They have a lot of work to do.

Question

We are in a holding pattern on buying a 320 until we hear how you have made out. I must say that talking to the factory rep at the hershey show made us seem confident of the product.

IF the rep didn't he wouldn't be the factory rep. They get paid to tell you what you want to here. I met the factory rep in Mpls at the winter 2011 RV show. Just another sales guy to me. You would think he would have introduced me to a sales person from RV World - the only dealer in MN. Did that happen......NOPE.

@joelek you're sounding kinda bitter. Are you unhappy with your rig, or just the sales aspect?

Love my 320RS just spent the last weekend in it before winterizing and moving to a permanant spot within the RV resort I am at.

The sales aspect..........yes the Columbus brand is only carried by a few dealers. And I found it absolutely crazy that the factory rep at the RV show did not introduce me to the dealer sales rep. It's like they were simply introducing the 320RS to the public at a tradeshow but they were not ready to sell them yet. This was winter 2011 in MN by the way. In summer I went and checked the Columbus rig out again at the one and only dealer in MN.

The dealer woudn't budge on their price and said in fact, their is a price increase of a few grand for the 2013 model year. So we shook hands, parted ways and not even a follow up call from dealer. It tells me they did not need the additional business as the Columbus was selling well for them and in fact they were.

So I drove 400 miles and bought mine from the dealer next door - Iowa. Saved close to $4K for a roadtrip AND they sold me a 2013 for the same price as their 2012 models sold for.
