Suburban Gas Furnace

Our furnace did not ignite today when we tried it. We troubleshot the obvious such as making sure we had enough propane, not blocking the vents, etc. The blower did run and it tried three times to ignite but didn't. We have a 2013 31kbh puma travel trailer. Two questions, where is the actual furnace located in the travel trailer and do we need to have the battery hooked up for it to work? We were plugged into electricity but hadn't hooked up our battery yet. It is still under warranty but wanted to check some more things ourselves. Thanks in advance.

Yes you have to have battery voltage to activate the propane monitor which when in normal condition has a green light which then activates 12 volts to propane into the rig.
You just didn't have and propane to the heater because you didn't have battery voltage.
I have attached the generic motorhome owners manual for you to read. It may help. See page 40.



I do not have your trailer so I may be wrong in telling you where your heater is located but it is usually behind a wooden faceplate inside with slots in it. You can also find the exhaust on the outside of the trailer. Usually chrome plate with a hole.

Thanks so much for your response. Now I can't remember if we had hooked the battery up before or after we tried (UGH). We did smell gas though when the furnace was trying to light. So, you were saying that the battery needs to be hooked up to supply propane to the heater? So if we smelled gas, then the battery was probably hooked up then. I think I know where the furnace is located now, under our oven. It is a vented panel in the camper and it is right behind where the external vents are.

You probably have
Air in the system.

Propane hoses are made to "leach" propane so over the winter with tanks turned off the hoses are probably dry.
Start stove burners till a good flame is seen then re try.
My camper took 6 attempts to get propane to furnace this spring.
Also try shutting off both tanks then slooooowly turn the valve back on.
Theres most likely nothing wrong with your furnace.

No one has directly answered the "do I need a battery question" so I'll
step in.
No you don't have to have a battery connected.
If the trailer is plugged into shore power the onboard charger will provide
12v to run the lights and furnace fan.
Since the furnace blower did run you know you have 12v.

As mentioned by others-- light the stove burners to be sure you have
full flow of LP then shut off the stove and try the furnace again.
You have to re-set the furnace by either shutting off the thermostat or
removing and replacing the furnace fuse. This cycles the power and resets
the furnace control board.

We did light the stove and let it run for a good 2-3 minutes and nice blue flame came out. Hot water heater ran great, nice flame on that as well. We did shut down the furnace and waited and hour and then tried again and then waited another hour and tried again. So, it sounds like it is not a gas problem but something else. We will have to get someone out to look at as it appears to be a little more complicated than we thought.

Yes u must have a battery with juice .....at least thats what we were told when we called with a problem with ours

Have the furnace board checked...ours fried and they repkaced it free
