I've got a set of LT 245/75/16 tires 10ply tires sitting in my garage ready to swap to my sabre or my equipment trailer. Im done with st tires as well. I can't seem to get more than a couple years out of them with out throwing the "backs" or getting tread separation before I throw it, with newer tires.....even 14 plys.
Im going with lts on everything unless I cant find a load rated tire small enough for the boat.

Here is a pic with my sabres spare-235/80/16 on a 6x16" rim (the taller one with high speed tread) and my Lt 245/75/16 on a 6.5x16"rim (the one with more aggressive tread)
Laying them on the ground a measuring the width the 245 is a 1/2" wider, but the rim is also 1/2" wider too.
Appears the 235 is 30 7/8" tall and the 245 8s 30 5/8" tall....but that may change slightly if it was on a 6" rim.
To me the 245/75/16 is my perfect size unless I can get a 235/80 or 85/16 in the lts I desire at the time

Picking tires seems like such a needless exercise. There is so much conflicting stuff out there. One would think by now it would be much simpler.

Thanks for the pics MillerTime. That is what I'm trying to accomplish. Just don't know if the weight ratings of the LT will be sufficient.

Those st's I have (westlake) are rated for 3520lb
The Lt's pictured are 3042lb (rated just over your axle rating, if you have 6k axles)

And my nitto truck tires in the background have a 4080lb load rating.

Just look at different brands and you will find different ratings in the same sizes.

I just replaced the Westlake tires on our brand new Sabre with Goodyear Marathons. Both sets are ST235/80R/16. I could not find any American made tires anywhere. One dealer said he had some American made Carlilse and brought them in. They turned out to be made in China as well. The Marathons are made in China but I am hoping that the quality will be better being Goodyear. Probably false hope but that's the avenue I went down. Just sold the Westlake's tonight to a farmer for his hay trailer.

Read somewhere in my reasearch that because of stricter DOT requirements for vehicle tires (compared to the almost nonexistent requirements for trailer tires) forces manufacturer's to give tires a lower rating. Basically it said at max load a st tire is using 100% of its safe capacity where as a vehicle tire is using much less. Can't find the article again though.

Passenger car tires when used on trailers should be down graded 9% of their load rating. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tirete...jsp?techid=219

I read that about p - metrics from tire rack before. The article I read talked specifically about LT'S. It didn't say it was ok to exceed the rating but implied not to worry about going up too the rating because there's a little reserve.

You can order Maxxis online at a number of retailers, including Amazon. They'll ship them to your house. You can have a local shop install & balance them.

I talked to them when I ordered mine.... they said they would/could order them...just not very enthusiastic about it. I was terrified of them being 18-24 months old(as stated on other threads).... I ordered the "weeks" old Marathons

Maxxis 8008

I did a lot of research on tires for my former Heartland Trailrunner. I replaced the cheap Chinese tires with the Maxxis 8008 ST Radial BS Trailer tires in an E load range. ST225/75R-15E 117B were ordered from Discount Tire Direct at a delivered cost of $628. Had them mounted and balanced for about $60. I narrowed my decision down to the Maxxis and GreenBall Tires and since DTD did not carry the GreenBall tires I opted to go with the Maxxis. I read lots of reviews on the GreenBall tires and they were all positive. Just purchased a 2015 Cherokee 274DBH and traded in the Trailrunner; wish I could have moved the tires over. I'll run the stock ones for now but I'm looking to go back to the Maxxis 8008s in a load range higher than what I have now. The Maxxis ran great at 70 MPH and when I stopped for fuel or rest room, were just mildly warm.
Hope this helps.

Also....I saw the deal I couldn't pass up. GY 225/75/15 D-rated. $312 no freight or tax. Had to do it
