Traveling with LP on
We are getting ready to make our first LONG trip with our new 2014 Puma and wondering what people's thoughts are with leaving the LP on to keep fridge cold. We have heard good and bad thoughts on this, we do turn it on when hubby is at work parked in his parking lot to keep fridge cold but never traveling down the road.
Traveling from Northern Iowa to Nashville Tennessee area, any thoughts and idea's would be appreciated....getting nervous! We are going to only travel about 250 miles per day as we have 3 little ones

I always travel with the LP and fridge on to keep things cold. If you fridge is close to where you fuel, you can always turn it off when you fuel. A trip of any lenght in the summer would require you to keep the fridge on, I would think.

Always on. I guess I have always just taken it for what it is, never thought about the dangers, although this post makes me realize there are dangers in leaving that on. In my opinion, if I am concerned, the easiest thing to do would be to go into the camper and simply turn the fridge off just before refueling. You wouldn't just want to shut the propane tank off as the fridge would continue to draw propane until it runs out, and then you could get some air into the lines which would require the fridge to reset several times before getting ignition. I think simply turning the fridge off would be safe to do. I fuel with diesel which has a much different flash point, and not so flammable vapors, so I don't think I will be turning the fridge off if I am able to fill at the RV or diesel islands without gas vapors close, but this is a good option.

I used to worry about this too so I would travel with it off in the beginning but now I travel with it on. Do what you are comfortable with.
PS
Now that I am traveling with it on it's so much easier.

On here. When refueling the gas filler on my truck is 25 feet from the fridge. The guy smoking at the store entrance is often just as close. If it was a motor home yes.

I know it is illegal to travel with propane on in the state of Washington. But I do it anyway. I guess I am a scofflaw.

On all the time, except when it's required by law, like on ferries and some road or tunnel, like the one close to Baltimore.
