Trigger Pulled - Got a truck to Tow my 35QSIK

Well, the plan was to be stationary for 2 seasons while my youngest is well...young and while my wife is starting her surgery practice...

And dont get me wrong, we truly enjoyed our first stationary season, arriving early fridays and only have a floor to unlock and a beer to open, then leaving late on Sundays with minimal work to get us on the road...

but....

I felt like a hostage, not being equipped to tow my FW... so the plan has changed, we will keep on seasonal spot, but we will also take the FW out a few times next season...

I will be taking delivery tomorrow of a brand new 2014 Ram 3500 (SRW), Crew Cab, Cummins, Aisin, etc... Pics will be added once I get the rig!

I am thinking the 2014 35QSIK and the 2014 Ram 3500 should work well together! I will keep you guys updated!

Congrats on the new ram. It should handle the 5er just fine... top end of specs but should be within them. The Cummins engine will love to work for you.

Congrats on the new truck! Please do post pictures.

I can relate to that feeling of freedom of having your own TV to tow with. In the beginning I borrowed my sister's Yukon. Life is so much easier when you can be independent and be able to get up & go if you want.

Thanks!

I looked into a Dually but I daily drive my truck so having a SRW was easier! Payload on the new 3500 is 3950lbs, 5er is 2065lbs dry, so maybe 2500lbs at the worst, still leaving me 1400lbs for passengers and extras, as far as towing weight goes, the 5er's GVWR is 14,065, but I never travel with water, so lets say 13,500lbs at the max, the truck is good for over 17,000lbs so plenty of room there too!

And well I know the cummins can pull!

Can't wait to pick it up and then go get the 5er this weekend and hit the road for the last long weekend of the year!

Congrats on the new truck! I think you will be happy with your decision to be able to get out and move around some when you want to.

Congrats! We are like you, have a seasonal spot, but take it out 3-4 times for a week or so during the season. Best of both worlds. We will be close to doubling our "nights spent" by the end of season, over last year.

Congratulations on the new truck!
I pull a similar sabre to your qsik with a 2500 duramax so you'll have no issues.
My sabre is actually heavier then yours when full.

Happy camping!

Thanks! We are already at 90 nights this year and still have a few weekend to go!

I strongly believe we will enjoy the "Hybrid Camper Lifestyle" of being both seasonal and also travelling a little! After 4 straight years of travelling and a young baby, I needed a break from the Pack / Unpack routine but now I am ready for a few outings!

Awesome! I wanted a 2500, but the Ram payload on 2500's was too low and I am a Ram guy, so I had to go 3500!

What's remarkable- my 2012 DRW Ram 3500 is "only" 4,297 lbs. The 3,950 that you quote- is that for your actual truck? or is it what's on their web site?

3950 was the quoted payload online, just check my sticker and I have 3880lbs. Happy with that for a single rear wheel!

Those SRW numbers are incredible. I'm really jealous.

My 2014 MC SB Dually is 5900 and change for payload. I'll never be over and the mileage is as good/better than my '12 2500. 9500 mi this summer towing and avg was 11.8 mpg - FL to WA and back. Stability in winds and twisty roads is unbelievable plus the extra cab room is great.
By the way - how does one "practice" surgery??
