Truck size dilemma...That age old question.
Hi,
My husband and i are buying a Columbus 320rs and I was wondering what size truck do you pull yours with? We just cant decide which one is needed a 2500 or 3500 diesel. We have looked at Chevy, GMC and Ram.

In most cases, the payload on the 2500 is not going to be great enough for the tongue weight plus additional items added to the pickup. You can find the payload of the vehicle on a sticker on the driver side door area. I pull my 320rs with a ford 350 dually.

I have no problem towing my 320RS with a RAM 2500 Cummins. I am under the max ratings with my setup and it tows great. To be safe, check the specs on any TV you're considering.

Kelly, not a problem. Everybody has to learn the ropes when the are new on the forum.

I don't mean to come across as the "weight police" as people like to say, but when you say you're under the max ratings, do you mean ALL ratings (GVWR, axle ratings, tire load capacities and GCWR)?

Payload
I agree with mmunn. Check the payload on the 3/4 ton. Remember to add the weight of you, significant other, cargo etc. I think this needs a full one ton. Dulley or not, I can't say.....

I bought a Columbus 320 in march. And bought a Chevy 3500HD crew can diesel 4x4 SRW. Love both al the power needed. Drove it to Michigan from Kansas in June got 21 mpg empty getting about 11 with Columbus in tow. Chevy with Duramax/Allison is best on the market. I got the LTZ and love it and standard bed works great.

X2 - remember, you cannot have too much power when towing - up hills, getting on short on-ramps, passing, and when going down hills the built in diesel brake and the transmission make driving with a trailer as easy as it gets.

I also have the Dodge Crew cab long bed and the 6.7 Cummins diesel engine and we tow our 320rs with abosolutly NO probelm and get 13 MPG towing.

Tow my 320RS with a 2005 Freightliner 500HP, no problem going uphill and with the big engine brake, no problems going downhill. The main reason i have the big rig is for stopping and the 4 rescued dogs love riding in the sleeper cab. Lots of extra storage space too, no danger of overloading the truck. Get 8-9 MPG towing and they can be bought used for less than half the cost of a 1ton dually. They out turn must pick-ups.
