Anyone know anything about AT&T's version of 'MIFI'? We have AT&T currently and would like to keep them as provider if possible. (Service blows, but have three kids on it for the cheap).

The only drawback mis 20 bucks per month and the 10 bucks for every 2GB of data usage. I just got ofdf the phone with them. I thought you could only use it when you wanted to sctivate it but this is not the case because it is another 2 year contract thing

I use a Verizon MIFI at home and take it on the road when we go. Good coverage most places.
I pay $50 a month for 5 gigs. That covers our commuter use and 2 iPads.

I have a hotspot on my iphone, but I'm still considering an actual hotspot device, even if I have to pay a little for it. It'd be nice to no have to have my phone a slave to the camper when we have guests.

I have a Clear unit. It's tiny and portable and reasonably priced. It's not as fast as Verizon I am told, but is is totally unlimited, no cap at all. I like to be on line a lot and didn't want to hog bandwidth, so I have my own.

It connects 8 devices and we have both TVs, both cell phones, both laptops and my Kindle Fire HD.

Does anyone know of one where you do it as required, no contract. For example if you just wanted to use it for the month of August, and pre-pay for it. Then you may not use it again til February the following year and again pay for your usage.
Is there any American company that does such a thing?, I don't mind buying their device but I was hoping to use it on my Macbook and iPad and Blackberry Playbook and Nexus 7, not all at once of course, but maybe two of them at once. So maybe you pay for a block of 2 or 5 gb that is good for a month and pre-pay it each and every time you want to use???
I cannot use my cell connection as I am in Canada and the roaming charges would kill me. And I certainly don't want a contract that I pay monthly for as even when retired I may only use 3 or 4 months in total usage while in the U.S.
Any suggestions??

The Clear is not a contract. You can turn it on and off as needed.

It looks like that company 'Clear' might jut do that but they have very limited coverage and billing zones.
