What will I need?

My 320RS should have been ordered from the factory today. It will be a while before it is delivered, but I am trying to make a list of things I will need when I pick it up, to make it 'usable'. I've never owned a camper, and the brochure doesn't list what actually is provided with the trailer, and what is needed to use the trailer.

So any input is appreciated.

I will make a quick list, as for what it will come with is nothing unless you ordered it. Think like it is your home, you will need pots and pans, plates and silverware, bedding for the size bed that you got, Cups, coffee pot if you drink coffee, a sewer drain hose, a water hose for drinking water, a pressure regulator, a water filter, bathroom supplies, wheel chocks, patio mat, camping chairs, awning lights if you want them the newer columbus comes with a LED strip. Towels, Kitchen supplies extension cords. This should be enough to get you started. you can always add as you go.

Our list by compartment in the truck and camper.
This is based on our "long trip" (2 months typically) and modified slightly for shorter trips.

Wow - great list

The title of this thread caught my eye. I hope you don't mind if I make a copy as well? We don't have our tt yet but you can't start planning too early for all the necessary "stuff". The family will start out with small 3 day trips so I'll pair the list down as needed. Love the way it's set up.

I forgot to ask you if you were going to Goshen as well. I am sure you have all ready put it on here that you were or weren't but I probably missed it.

I made up lists for each area of the trailer. I found it easier to picture myself in that space and how I would use it. or would need.

Bathroom: t paper, soap, towels, wash clothes, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
Kitchen: Cookware, dinnerware, flatware, pot holders, dish soap, salt, pepper, sugar, paper towels, trash bags, etc..
Bedroom: Sheets, blankets, pillow, clothes, etc.
Misc.: Qtips, cottonballs, phone charger, nail glue, hair dryer, etc..

At home I would open drawers and cabinets and dot down items to borrow or buy. As I went through my day I would dot down more items not to forget - what do I need for my contacts?

I did buy some new stuff for the TT but I also borrowed from the house in the beginning. Keeping a small stock of clothes for colder & warmer temps can be helpful. I also didn't worry about stuff I might need down the road. As time went on I was better able to determine what I really would use vs buying it all now.

PS Please excuse any tupos as I am typing iwthout my contacts.

The lists already provided in this thread are excellent but some of them contain way more items than you need to get started using your trailer. Go through those lists and get the items you really think you need on a first trip. The rest of the stuff can be added later. Since this is your first trailer I highly recommend taking it to the closest campground for your first shakedown trip and live in it for a couple of days.

Things you should have for the first trip.
A sewer hose and connections for dumping gray and black water
Chemicals to treat the black water holding tank (toilet)
A 25 foot drinking water hose for your fresh water
A water pressure regulator for the drinking water hose
Wheel chocks
A basic tool kit
A basic first aid kit
Pillows
A set of bedsheets and blanket (King bed or Queen bed)
Basic cookware for your new kitchen
Basic tableware, paper or plastic work great for a first trip
Food
Basic toiletries including RV toilet paper. Later you can determine if you want to use some other type of TP.
Towels and washcloth
Change of clothes
If your new trailer has 50 amp service you will want to get a 30 amp to 50 amp electrical adapter for those campgrounds and RV parks that don’t offer 50 amp service.

I don’t think I’ve forgotten anything really important for a first trip. After a couple of nights in the trailer you’ll have a better idea of what you need and want. Did I mention staying close to home for that first trip? It’s a good idea.

Good starter list.

My first "camping trip" was at home right in the driveway, with a pencil and paper in hand. Using the camper is the best way to build your list of must haves. And being close to those must haves the first time out will speed the learning curve.

Wow! Lots of responses. I was more speaking about what was needed to use the trailer itself: power cords, sewer hoses, water hoses, etc. The actual living things I thought would be pretty straight forward. However, I see several things I never would have thought about, so that's a good thing then.

Thanks all.

I would just add that most of the items on the list are available at your local WalMart and can save you $$$$. They have an area for RV supplies that covers the basics including extension cords, levelers, wheel chocks etc.

That's a great list, kind of reminds me of an old credit card TV commercial " don't leave home without it"

Actually we probably carry most of that stuff in our trailer as well!
