National Forest Campgrounds

This website was in an article in the latest Highways magazine on National Forest Service camping: http://www.forestcamping.com/

Looks like a great resource for those that want to get away from the typical commercial campgrounds.

That's a good site. I've used it many times. We tend to camp more in gov parks than anywhere else. You'd be surprised how many parks they've visited.

We prefer the federally subsidized campgrounds also. The sites are usually not 1 on top of the other like so many privately owned campgrounds.

Thanks for the site info. I have stayed at a couple of National Forest Campgrounds when I go up to MI to ride my quads.

Yeah I book marked this one!

I live in a sub-division where each home is on an acre lot. When I go camping, why do I want to be closer to my neighbors than when I'm at home?

Thanks for the link!

So do we, I'm with you here. We actually prefer dry camping just up the road from the FS campground in free sites that are private and beautiful. I wished someone had a site which listed dry camping places. We know of lots of them just a couple of hours from our home but I just know that because they are not listed many RVrs pass right on by not knowing they are there.

I have often wondered when we are en route somewhere and just need a place for a night, how many free dry camping places we pass right by and never know about because we aren't local.

Hmmmm, maybe I need to put together another web site......

Great site! locked it in my favs.
I live in the NC mtns. There are a lot of service roads (dirt) that take you down into the valleys. Along the roads there campsites ( clearings) where you can camp for free, dry of course. They were made for hunters to use during season but during the warmer months you better get there early before they get taken. We live on 50 acres so we're not use to being on top of our neighbor. PLUS no cell phones

National Forest Service campgrounds are the way to go. They mostly require dry camping and that eliminates a lot of people right there. the sites are more private and often they are far from full. we've had MANY wonderful camping experiences in these campgrounds. They are also dog friendly if that is important to you.
