I did not think so.

Just to clear one point up here - that aircraft isn't certified for JATO operations - in fact the only civil aircraft I recall as having any assisted take off certified equipment is the old Swearingen Metro and I'm not too sure on that either.

Probably removed all cargo and un-necessary equipment and had just minimum fuel.

According to Victor White, director of Wichita airports, there were other concerns before the takeoff. The major concern was that Jabara's runway could be damaged by such a heavy plane, which is estimated at about 600,000 pounds

UPDATE: Boeing Dreamlifter successful in Jabara takeoff

My dad worked for Vertol in Canada. They had a JATO demo in Montreal one time at an airshow. They needed to repave the landing zone afterwards.

Goggle B47 bomber JATO and see some video. The last version of JATO on the B47 consisted of 3 rows of 11 rockets each mounted on a rack that would be jettisoned after the rockets were expended after takeoff.

All B47's on Alert Status were equipped with JATO as they were loaded with a nuclear weapon and max fuel load.

Dumb question: Why can't they just unload all the cargo and take off?

Can't the C130 use JATO?
