#^%$&@*

I went to the storage yard today to put some stuff in the TT and noticed that my outside storage area door was ajar. Someone tried to pry both doors open but didn't succeed. The key latch was bent a little and really P_ _ _ed me off, so spent the better part of the day installing eye bolts and U shaped padlocks on both doors.

When I told the front office of what happened, they admitted that there are no cameras in the lot itself, just the gates. I told her that I've seen homeless people follow cars in just to use the bathroom and walk out the foot traffic gate. She told me that some homeless people actually have storage lockers there!

I'm searching for a better storage yard.

Mmm. I would have to take it tonight. I cannot stand a thief. Second only to child abusers and rapists.

Sorry to hear about the damage to your unit. It's not uncommon for the homeless to have a storage unit(s) at these places. To be fair the break-in could had been anyone coming in and looking for anything of value.

Thieves come in many forms. Some, believe it or not, do it just for the thrill. We saw some kids caught stealing at a 6-Flags shop, and they all had more money on them than I did. I can't abide a thief.

Man that sux! IMO, a storage lot is the one place where RVs are the most vulnerable to thieves. Nine years ago we had a thief take a few things from our front storage compartment while our fifth wheel was at the storage lot.

Update: Moving my TT to a larger yard specifically for RVs and boats tomorrow. A forty foot space versus a twenty footer and even has a dump station. The gate uses the typical security code but also a finger print pad. The kicker is that it's next to the sheriff's vehicle maintenance yard!

I feel much better now!

Took the TT to the new storage yard today. The space was so wide and long I actually had trouble backing it in! I can actually hook/unhook the trailer with my van in the space and not block the through traffic!

Platokidd, yes it would be nice to have driveway space but I live in a condo and my GF's driveway houses our boat! Her son and my son both failed us by buying houses with no toy parking! Maybe next time.

We store our trailer at a storage facility that has camera coverage of the entire place with recorders. However, somebody in a high profile U-Haul truck took out the exit gate. They are in the process of replacing it, but it is taking quite a while to do so. I stopped in and asked what extra security they have implemented and was assured the local police dept is doing close patrols, and the on site management is making several trips through the facility each night. Apparently the gate has to be custom made in California at a cost of $19k - said their lawyer is in contact with U-Haul...
