Thanks very much Herk - that B47 shown was a early model one - it had the early nose plexiglass,internal JATO mounting,no 1700 gallon external fuel tanks hung underwing between the numbers 1 and 2 and 5 and 6 engines.

The "Standard" B47 used by SAC for bombing was the "E" model - it had many improvements such as heavier landing gear for increased takeoff weight,ejection seats,improved engines,external JATO mounting racks which allowed for more fuel tankage, improved bomb/nav system etc.

Great show Herk! Dad was there at McConnell on the flight line. I like those old training shows....jdadoug

Those would almost certainly be the "TB-47" model at McConnell "T meaning trainer." The "TB" were converted B-47B's that had a provision for an instructor to be carried on board. I read that 40 aircraft were converted.

McConnell was the training base for B-47 crews.
