The dish, the tailgater or winegard?

We're switching home service from cable to Direct so we can "take the service with us" for the RV.

I'm thinking either winegard or tailgater is easier to deal with than the dish and tripod.

Some thoughts?

I think the tailgater is only with dish network.

If you want no fuss get a auto finding satellite winegard.

(facepalm) Ohhhtay, that must be why the installer only mentioned the dish/tripod and the winegard.

Getting it all done Thursday...gotta have it ready for this weekend!

Already discovered that work weeks seem twice as long when you have a trip set up for that weekend.

Oh, and this weekend we have friends coming over from TX to camp with us...got lucky and got the space right by us.

I use a dish. Takes me a very few minutes to aim. I use Dish Network, the Pro Plus, so that I can have different show on multiple televisions and have the DVR.

<chuckle> I let DH deal with all the fine print. But I did hear him say the DVR won't be needed while on trips since we have anything we'd miss already scheduled to record here at home. Also heard 'em say we went for the "ultra" (?) package.

Seriously, if the power goes out here every thing flashes 12:00 until he resets it all. That includes my alarm clock. Hey, that's what I keep him around for! (grin)

So, of course I wouldn't know much about the antennas...just saw all three in the RV park a couple of weeks ago and was wondering about quality differences between the two big wonky dice type.

I like my dish on the the tripod but most don't like to fuss with set-up.

If I ever found a auto tracking carry out dome cheap I'd probably buy it straight away.

OK, so I just went to one of the local RV supply houses and bought the Winegard "Carryout", (fully automatic) with the base (a platform with tripod legs that lifts it up about 18").

Also got the "honey wagon" and the Rhino Flex hose...price was (I think) a few dollars cheaper than WalMart.

Now for a question;

What's the best way to hook up the power cord for the Winegard to the TT battery? gator clips? None of the RV supply houses here have anything. We were told "most RVs these days have cigarette lighter type plug somewhere up near the hitch". NYET! no such critter on ours.

This is what I use for my carryout. My sat connection is at the front of the trailer close to the battery so it works out pretty good.



Available at most any auto parts stores.

I mounted mine on the ladder with Winegard's ladder mount, and hardwired to the camper's 12V system. I also have a tripod mount in case I cannot see the satellite from my campsite. The ladder mount comes with a duplicate set of cables.
