Why Stay? Because we're camping. We had a great campfire after the potluck dinner last night, we're enjoying the company of other FROGs, we're having fun, the part of the campground that isn't flooded is still beautiful, and my campsite now has a lake front view. It takes a lot more than some rain and high water to ruin a camping trip for me.

And if a dike breaks or something to cause the water to rise unexpectedly during the night, you could loose everything. Too many other campgrounds and other days to camp for me to jeopardize things, but then we're retired and can camp anytime we choose.

My goodness, you really are a worry wart. We're on the lake, not below the dam, if the dam or levee breaks here the water goes down not up. Too be honest I don't know what dams or levees are upstream from us but the COE keeps a close eye on things. Besides the emergency spillway isn't being used yet so I'm sure we'll have plenty of time to evacuate. Like I said, we're having fun so why leave?
BTW, we're retired too but not all of our friends are so sometimes we camp in less than prime conditions to be with them. This is one of those times.

Where are you camping? Am not a worry wart, but have camped in places that have started to get high water and later were inundated and completely flooded within hours. Thank goodness we were gone the day before.

We're at Coles Creek campground on Carlyle Lake in IL. Originally we reserved one of the few full hookup sites but the COE called us just days before we left and informed us that our site was closed due to the high water. We changed our site to one that is electric only as did most of our group. We're in the same campground loop, just on slightly higher ground.

Reminds me of when the Army was on evacation duty on the OHIO river. The COE posted (Days) in advance which parts of town would be (Flooded). I went on a Call where the People were sitting at their Kit.table EATING when we arrived,they said to load all there (stuff) and when the finished eating they put the dirty dishes in a box and told us they were ready and got in a Rescue Boat! The water was (4-6") deep (In the house when we got there)! You cant help Stupid!  Youroo!!

Flood waters look so benign when they are still, but when it starts to move look out! The power of flowing water is amazing! Stay safe!

The Disc Golf course at the campground was a bit more challenging with the flood water. Hip boots are recommended to navigate the course.

Its been a rough few weeks here in the midwest. I camped all weekend in the rain at Mark Twain Lake but hey at least I was camping!

Yes it is and we can probably have campfires this year as well unless hick puts another statewide ban on. 
Still below freezing at 11mile at night and still snowing in the mountains.
Believe me I know we need the water but 6" of snow and 18 degrees on may 1st is a bit unheard of.
