Campground review

Good afternoon friends and fellow RV'ers. I would like to find out if anyone has ever camped at a place called BAY HIDEAWAY RV PARK 8360 Lake Shore Dr, Bay St. Louis, mississippi? If anyone has,let me know about your experience as we are thinking about spending the winter there this coming December thru April 2018. Any comments, suggestions or experiences would greatly help. I read reviews but you never know who writes them. I would rather get info from real campers. Thanks in advance. Jim & Peg. 2017 Wildwood 27REIS 33' TT. TV 2013 Ford super crew 3.5L eco-boost and JAKE the wonder dog.

Bay RV Park

Go to This link: www.campgroundreviews.com

Bring up Mississippi. Then Bay St. Louis

Then the campground and you'll find 72 reviews.

It has been 7 years since we stayed at Bay Hide Away but the recent reviews I read on campgroundreviews.com seem pretty accurate. The only thing I would be concerned about is the brown water mentioned in a couple of reviews. We did not experience the brown water in 2010. After heavy rains there is standing water in some areas of the campground. The campground is close to the ocean, the Silver Slipper Casino, and the John Stennis Space center.

We were there in 2010, five years after Hurricane Katrina devastated the area and there were still many areas, especially Waveland, MS, that hadn’t recovered. I would hope that by now everything has been rebuilt or restored in that area.

Here are a few pictures I took in March 2010. Here’s a pic of our site at Bay Hide Away.

The beach was nice and almost always deserted during our visit.

If you feed the seagulls don’t turn your back on them, LOL.

Damage from Katrina could be seen almost everywhere in 2010. It depressed me to think that 5 years after the hurricane there was still so much work that needed to be done. Apparently New Orleans received the bulk of the federal disaster money. One day as we explored the area we took a drive along Lower Bay Road and came upon this church in a drainage ditch. The storm surge from Katrina had picked up the church and moved it inland one mile before depositing it along the side of this road.

One thing that surprised me about the area was the number of mudbug (crayfish) mounds in the front yard of the campground owner’s home. That told me the water table is very high in that area which explains why rainwater doesn’t soak into the ground very fast. This was the first time I seen mudbug mounds this far from a creek or river. Perhaps the high water table has something to do with the reviews that mention brown water. Before you book the campground I’d give them a call and ask about that issue.
Here’s a picture of the front yard with all the mudbug mounds. Click on the picture to make it larger.

I truly was fascinated by the mounds so much so that when we were preparing to depart we were presented with mudbug mound from their yard to remember our stay at Bay Hide Away. The campground owners were extremely nice and very accommodating. We still have that silly little gift and it still gives me a warm feeling when I look at it.

Great pics bob. I never knew mudbugs did that. What an interesting gift. You are probably the only guy on your block to have such a trophy.LOL. I have talked to michele the owner several times about the brown water issue. She told me it was from Katrina and that they flush the park well daily but to no avail.one thing i have discovered if you email her she will not answer. If you call and leave a message to call you back she won't. This has prompted me to canx my reservation with her. They also seem to have alot of rain and wx there. I can dodge snow flakes alot better than rain drops. Besides i like cold wx. My wife hates it. Thats why we were looking for a warm place to hibernate next winter. As always Jim & Peg and Jake the camper dog.
